Overnight I seem to have lost an Excel file on my computer. It is still listed in my recent documents, but when I click on it, it says 'This shortcut refers to a link that has been changed or moved' (or something along those lines).
Its not in my documents anymore and its not in the recycle bin, other stuff is in there that I deleted ages ago and I only used this missing file yesterday or maybe Tuesday.
I have tried a search for the filename, but it's not coming back.
Any ideas or help would be most appreciated, it was quite an important file to me,
thanks.

Something similar happened to me once. I did a system restore to a few weeks previous and it popped up again. You could perhaps try that?
Or maybe do a search for the file name including hidden files? |

Do a search, including hidden files for part of the main name of the file. If the file was called 12345678.xls, do a search for '3456' only. Plus also you wouldn't happen to know the file size would you? Because sometimes if they're saved badly (microsoft does it sometimes) then a startup scan can detect it, in which case it would've moved the file to c:\found.000 and called it something like found000.chk.
Check virus scanners as well, i've lost excel files before due to activex components being flagged as virus's by my scanners. Also known as a 'false positive'. |

A system restore might do it, also you could see if its listed under recent documents? |

Start -> control pannel -> prefermance and maintanence -> Should be an option on the left margin.
It basicaly changes your pc to how it was at a point in time you choose, but if you have changed other files it might delete those changes? |
