not really a problem but i am intrigued to know. When i feed my corn he takes both pinkies or fluffs really well but he as never constricted himself around it. Is it because they are already dead or because they or he is too small and will he start doing on larger mice when he grows or do they never try to kill their food except in the WILD. |

yea weird isn`t it, i`ve even tried waggling the mice just as he takes it to see if i can make him think that it it still alive but then we just have a game of tug of war until i give up so i dont stress him out. Thanks anyway. quote: Originally posted by BlueTongueDan

i think when they first bite to see what situation is, they realise its dead so why waste energy? my mitch is the laziest feeder and will sniff it a few times and circle viv before he eats lol |

Its illegal to feed live in the UK. But to be honest, its not worth putting your snake at risk (live mice can cause serious damage).

yes, don't bother with live. Like Blue Tongue Dan says they can cause serious damage to the snake. Just think of the claws and teeth on rodents. Nasty!
My biggest corn strike feeds everytime but the little one does only when he can be bothered. How old is your corn? I think they get better has they age. Even snakes have to learn how to do stuff |

I was told tonight you can live feed (not that i want to), the only law is putting the animal thats going to be eaten through too much stress ie it bieng in there too long, how they would prove it I have no idea
Like has been said though, sometimes the mice if left for a while with the snake will not feel threatened and then attack the snake causing lots of dmg and death of your snake. For me not worth it as I love saphy :D

So is it legal to feed a live mouse to a snake? I am confused now, i always thought it was. Not that i ever would, i couldnt! Id end up keepin the mouse as a pet! My snake has consticted once when i moved him to adult mice, he pounced on it and constrictrd it, never does it now! |

if there is no need to feed live and your snake is a healthy defrost eater. in such a case if you were found to be feeding live you would probs be prosecuted. if its a situation of the snake hasnt eaten and is at risk of dieing its self its a gray area. you would fed it in the privacy and keep it quite, as should you be found out the rspca may still try to prosecute you however they are in this situaion in a catch 22 (crulty to the mouse or if not fed crulty to the snake)so it would probs be throne out of court. that is the way ive always understant things tobe anyway.
but again i would never fed live to a snake that it wasnt necessary it could cause more harm than good and alot of captive bred snakes have never seen live and will be very stressed at the presence of live. if you want to treat you snake spray the viv with water they will enjoy drinking the droplets |
