We’ve recently had a new addition to our family. We bought ‘Elaphe Sans-Hands’ on Saturday and she is truly beautiful.

Tonight is the first time we will be feeding her, any advice or tips? Worried. Seem to be conflicting advice on here. The shop I purchased her from suggested we feed her 2 pinkies. Do I feed her one straight after the another or wait for an hour or so? Will she eat straight away or will she need some encouragement?

Funny, I seem to be worrying about her like a new born child.

Any advice would be appreciated.

hi yep you can feed her one straight after the another
everyone has there own way of feeding hatchling/young corns all i cant do is tell you what i do which doesnt fail often.
i go for the least stress approch for a first fed with me on young snake i just lay the pray item as close to them as a can (just outside the entrance of there hide if it has a small entrance)nearer if entrance is bigger and leave it for a few hours as soon as they know its there they tend to come and get it

Thank you very much for the reply. I shall try and feed her two. I'll be patient and I'm looking forward to seeing her eat her first meal.

Cheers.

I always feed my snakes outside the viv. Less chance of getting substrate stuck on the food. Plus you get to watch then too, and your snake can get used to strike feeding.

It was AWESOME! So happy she ate. It ate two little ‘pinkies’, one after the other. Fed her from the tongs but from inside the viv. I’ll take her out next time and fed her in the box supplied from the shop.

It was cool but I was so nervous about her feeding, it effected my whole day. As feeding time came around, I could feel myself getting more and more anxious. She made the old hissing sound as it striked, made me jump. She constricted too and sat there for a minute with the pinkie in her mouth and then wolfed it down. Amazing to see it up close and personal.

Will take some getting used to I guess.

Filmed it on my mobile but deleted it by accident (knob).

I’d like to thank you all for your advice, great bunch of people on here. Look forward to sharing my experiences with you all.

Well done and your lucky she constricted, mine as never done that. Glad it went well.Leave her alone now for 48hrs and then, if you want, give her a bath in luke warm water and if your lucky like i am with mine, she`ll poo in the bath water after a few minutes.

errr poo in the bath!

I'd never be able to clean myself in there again

Glad the feeding went well, it is good when they constrict. My little corns constrict when they can be bothered, but not everytime. The big bird however strikes everytime and she seems to get faster and more accurate with each feed. She's a ninja!

Maybe it's an age thing

congrats glad it all went well its really good that your corn constricts, when its a bit older start to keep hold of the pray for a little so she constricts for longer its what they do in the wild and will help keep her fit she will benefit from it in the long run and it could help prolong her life. again well done
