Well my digital thermometer came today and i just wanted to state the heat
Cold side 64o f
Warm side(Inside the hide) 83o f
Are these temps ok?

the warm end could be a little warmer, aim for 29-30*C (is that about 85*F??)

I havent got a stat as of yet ive only got the mat, tho getting a stat on friday :) warm side this morning is sitting around 84o F

You do definetly need a stat but that wont raise the temp,what set up have you got,viv,rub,faunarium or glass tank?

Well hes only a baby so hes in one of them starter plastic tank things with a hide and a water bowl atm.. and a plant over his hide. Thats about it

good call a, substrate can act as insulation preventing much of the heat getting to the snake. if you're on beech chippings, bark or aspen/hemp try a thinner layer (1cm or less) over the heatmat to allow the heat to get through, alternatively you could try using paper or kitchen roll/towel to get the temps up a little

Yea im using wood chippings atm tho i just checked and it was at like 88.4o F tho i think thats coz the central heating was on so i just turned it off and opened the windows to cool down abit, i dont wanna burn him, tho hes just eated about an hour ago.. so wont see him for another few days and hes in shed aswell

As for the thickness of susstrate i will thin it out once hes finished digesting/shedding dont wanna disturb him.. also is aspenfresh a good sus or whatever its called, CAREFRESH! Thats the one, the pet shop near me dont do aspen just carefresh and wood chippings

Could you let the warm side go upto about 85-87o F thats about 30o C
