Hi guys. I got my first snake, a baby Crimson corn, on Saturday and so far she's settling in well. I however have a few newbie questions to put my mind at ease Firstly, the guy i bought her from recommended the Orchid bark for substrate. The only problem is it's quite damp and as a result the viv is quite humid and its causing quite a bit of condensation (which im cleaning up regularly) Any advice about how to stop this permanently or will it stop of is own accord? Secondly, Im feeding her for the first time today. Any general advice there? i think i know what im doing as i made several people explain it to me already in great detail. But any other advice would be welcome Thirdly, how often should i change the water in her water bowl? i completely forgot to ask when i bought her and i cant find any info about it. And last but not least...the heat mat. If i feel the glass directly above the heat mat it is quite warm. But if i feel the substrate above the glass, above the heat mat it doesnt feel that much different from the cooler end. am i putting too much substrate in? Sorry for the barrage of questions, i just want to the best for my little one, get off to a good start Thanks!

Lay it out on a baking tray, and bung it in the oven for a bit. 10-15 mins at about 120 degrees should do it.

If you've had feeding info from here, then you already have the best advice possible.

I change mine every day, sometimes I miss a day if i'm out.

Possibly, it depends on how deep the substrate is. I used to have about 1/2 inch of substrate above my heatmat when it was on glass.

No problems, it's one of the many reasons we're all here.

yup, bake the orchid bark to remove excess moisture as too much humidity can cause RIs (Respiratory Infections)
if possible feed her out of the viv/faun/tub so there's no risk of her ingesting substrate
water can be changed every other day or even once/twice a week, the bowl should be big enough for the snake to lie in but only ever half fill the bowl or your snake could flood the viv when he takes a dip!
if the heatmat is under the viv you only need a thin 1/2" layer of substrate (difficult with orchid bark though) and you want to check the temps on top of the substrate, ideally around 30*C at the hot end.
