Well I've gone and done it I bought my first snake today It's a 3 month old Anerythristic corn snake, it's dead cute. I will take some pics when it's settled in after a few days. It was due to be fed today but after bringing it home it looked a bit stressed so I'm going to leave the feed untill tomorrow and let it settle in for a few days. I haven't named it yet the kids like the names fluffy, mamba, Mr jingles and Kellog which I now somebody else has named there corn. I'm open to any ideas The shop it came from where feeding it 2 pinkies every 5 days. I'm going to feed it one tomorrow and see how we go

I'm going to feed my new snake for the first time today What methods do you guys use to defrost your pinkies? My local pet shop said let it thaw for an hour, but I have read somewhere that some people put it in water, but I can't find that info to re-read and it's not on my care sheet.

A pinkie in water wont take long, just check its fully defrosted. Yep, straight from the freezer. |

Well that was fun! My new corn with no name just had it's first meal from me I dropped the pinkie in the tub and it took to it straight away, although it took it bottom first, is this ok? It was all over within a few minutes. Also the shop had been giving it two pinkies every five days but I don't want him to grow to fast so I'm giveing him just the one and work it's way up from there. does that sound ok or should I keep him on the same diet? The kids loved watching but the Mrs couldn't watch

Well done Its fine that he ate it from the wrong end. Its 3 months old so I would be giving it two. Dont disturb the snake though, give it 5 days and offer it two instead of one. |

I'm going to leave him for 48 hrs to digest I think thats the norm. But you rekon I should keep him on the same as what the shop where feeding him (two pinkies) How long before he would aprox go onto a fuzzy? I've not seen the size of a fuzzy compared to a pinkie to no when he is ready to make the step up.

Yea keep him on two for the time being.. it depends about fuzzys just when a fuzzy is the size of the thickest part of his body but he should be good for a couple months yet.. my new Amel is in Shed phase now ive had him for a month :D |

i defrost mice in a plastic tub on the radiator, just don't leave it too long, particularly if your central heating is really blasting out! as a general rule the prey item should be no thicker than 1.5 times the girth of the snake at it's widest point. i'd stick with 2 pinkies per feed for a while, then when you run out ask the pet shop/supplier if you can have a look at a fuzzy so you can compare sizes |
