I don't definately know with this one, i've never thought about fibre glass. However, i'd imagine that the fibre glass itself could possibly cause issues (may be wrong), but if you cover the fibreglass with something suitable afterwards then it'll probably be ok.
I dunno if there's any safe paints to use, someone else will be better at that one.
Not a great help, sorry. |

Isn't fibre glass the irritating stuff used for insulation in the loft? - How would you make a hide out of that? |

The exo-terra hides are made from GRP. GRP is basically fibre glass dunked in resin and layered onto a mould. The mould is covered in a releasing agent that helps you take the dried layer off. I recon you could do it,depending on how good the kit is.
(Thats a lesson from me on AS level product design ) |

haha yea i used it a few times with my A level design & tech, not very easy stuff 2 use but u can get some awsum results. automotive indutrie is the main for this sort of product, i have the whole front end of my old mini made out of it lol, its basically plastic when covered in resin, not sure what id cover it with either bu tim sure there are some safe paints that i could use and get a camo or wood effect fo make it look nice.
dont wurry BE, i agree the insulation stuff wouldnt be a very good material for a hide, i think it would very likly get into the snakes lung, under her scales etc, not very nice stuff

As an ex- GRP laminator / yacht builder I wouldn't recommend it. The amount of money it would cost to build a hide or make a feature would be astronomical in comparison to buying some pre-made bits and adapting them.
The laminating is the easy bit. The hard bit is making a halfway decent mould that will release properly once you layed your mat down. If your carpentry skills are up to it and you fully understand the laminating side of things, i.e. chemical makeup of the substances that you are using; health implications to you snake if you get it wrong; correct quantities of catalyst to use depending on temperature, relative humidity, etc then go for it.
I don't mean to sound like I'm having a rant . It's just that the materials used in order to produce hides, etc can have deeply unpleasant side effects if you get it wrong and I just don't want anyone to hurt their little friend . |

I've made a superb hide for my beardie. I call it recycling, the item in question was sterile and unused by the way.
That's her just sticking her head out when i put her in during construction of her viv.
Wider view of the viv with hide (guessed what it was yet?) Very empty huge viv there, bit more choca now.
