A was browsing different caresheets for corn snakes on the net and there were two things that i must admit .. worry me.
The size .. is 6ft long as an adult true Life Span .. i've had all sorts but generaly late teens early 20's
i was wondering if they are true .. and is it wise for a 17 yr old whos probably going to go to uni to take on a corn snake.
i thought i'd better ask you guys because its looks like u all have lots of experiance .. cheers

hi tom, 6ft is possible, my friend works in a pet shop in london and they have 2 that are 6ft, however i think most tend to grow around 4-5ft on average, females a little larger than males.
from what ive herd late teens, early 20's is a good aprox, give or take a few years either way.
as for the university thing, im 19 and just started my 1st yr at uni, i bought Nia in my 2nd month there as something to call my own and give me some responsability, as they only eat one every week or so they are very easy to care for, meaning i can go home for the weekend and not have to wurry about her starvin etc. then when the holidays come (like xmas nw) i pack up her things and take her home with me, which so far she hasnt had a problem with, and ive moved her around about 4 times in the last 3 months. only problem a i see is that i dont think halls of resisdance alow snakes, so for the 1st yr it would have to stay at home, im living im private and my landlord had no problem what so ever, he was more freaked out that i had her next to my bed lol
hope some of my jumble helps :D Daman |

When you hear of 6ft corn snakes dont let that put you off at all. They dont look that big. You can easily hold it with 1 hand as it will sit in loops and coils. |

I actually find it weird how so many people invite themselves back to see your snake as well. |

A 6ft corn is not a big snake, sounds it, but isn't. They are slender bodied snakes, so in essense are the same/smaller than a royal (which is much heavier bodied)
Age wise, yeah, they aint 3 year pets (namely rats/hamsters etc) |
ooops, I bought another......... |

I've two adult corns and one is about 5ft and the other is 6ft odd. You never know, but it's not a problem. They are good to handle at that size.
20-25 years is if you are lucky, but hopefully you will be. Uni shouldn't be a problem if you get a understanding landlord like Daman, if not- wouldn't your mum foster it until you come back? She might grow to love it |

i think a good indictor of how large a corn snake looks is on a number videos on youtube by "expertvillage", i type "adult corn snake care" and a few come up, on her she holds what looks to me lik a rather long corn, but doesnt look that big because it is so slender.
i get people invytin themselfs back everyday lol.. the number of people that are waiting to see her feed is huge lol.. i got friends queing around the block haha
i think ive got my nan around to loving them nw :D never touched a snake in 65 yrs, took her 2 days and know shes holding mine haha, i recon shel have her own in a month or so :D. |

Tom, im 23 and also at uni and didnt get Angelina until my 2nd year! I wouldnt let uni put you off getting a corn although if your staying in halls they might allow pets. If this is the case you may have to put it off for a year until you have your own uni place and then find a landlord that would allow you to keep a snake!
Sorry ive just read Damans earlier post but yeah i agree with whats been said so far! What uni are you going to be at?? |

if you want it go for it, with proper husbandry they can reach 25ish, sometimes your local reptile shop will take on a snake for a few if you are away on holiday |

I've found that landlords tend to not really mind snakes as they are not classed as 'destructive', however its best to wait until you've got out of uni accom as its not really fair on your mum if she doesn't like them and will end up looking after it for a year or two. |
