me and lauren have been using my fujifilm cam to take the pics posted of Nia and twiglet and the flash on this is pretty strong, didnt realy think much of it until i got my new DSLR this wk, the flash on this is hugly strong, it gives us a head ache after a few shots lol, just wundering wether taking many pictures of the snakes with such a powerful flash is damaging to the snakes eyes?

iv been thinkin that if it hurts me, and i can blink, then it must be pretty painful for poor Nia :(

I would use a diffuer if you are worried. A cheap diffuser would be a touch of sellotape (no I'm not joking) or anything you can find to soften the light. I'm currently experimenting with light from other sources than the flash, as flashes wash out colour anyways. An led torch is quite good, and can be aimed from the side etc

ooops, I bought another.........

I put a couple of rizlas over my flash, it softens the light a lot more.
Especially as my flash is excessively bright for a cheapo dig cam, everything comes out looking over exposed.

For me its more the way the shots lookpooprather than any reaction from the snake that I diffuse the flash.

I like the rizzla idea, might try that one.

ooops, I bought another.........

I did try other things in the past, even using sellotape. But when the tape has been on for a while, it leaves a horrible residue, whereas the rizlas just need dampening slightly again, and off they come.

the rizla trick sounds like a good idea! could even use normal paper fastenedwith cellotape/bluetack if its still too bright?
