hi all, im having trouble feeding my snake 'Brooke', i have been feeding her in the viv by leaving the mice by the entrance to her hide but she was getting substrate all over them, so i tried feeding her out of the viv in a big cardboard box, she was fine with this and ate really well but when i tried to put her back in the viv she went really nervous and was shaking her tail violently!! ( no, she's not a rattle snake!) any ideas? tom |

We feed ours in one of those plastic fun tanks, leave then a few minutes after they have finished then pop them back in the viv. Never had any reaction putting them back they just tend to slink off and find somewhere to hide. |

I feed mine in tubs and tip the tub exit next to their viv doors when they have finished eating. They just go in themselves sensing their home and the heat. |

Slim is always a bit sketchy but when I go to transfer him back into his tank after a feed he's always a bit worse, I think it's because they feel more threatened when they have just eaten. As long as you don't like, grip him where the mouse is in him too much I'm sure he'll be fine.
Oh, and the rattle snake impression is just his way of warning you off, my one does it all the time |

i feed all my corns out of their vivs. if i'm feeding multiple prey items as soon as they've finished one i introduce the next one. when they've finished feeding i leave them in the tubs for a good 10 mins so they know there's no more food coming, when i go to pick them up i move very slowly and aim for the middle third of the snake (to the head-end of the bulge). all my snakes are in this routine now so it works for me, obviously when starting to establish a routine there may be 'hiccups' |

Same here, feed in a rub,5-10 mins to let food settle then gently tip the rub up and let it slip back in. |

My daughters corn will not feed out of viv (18months old when we got him) so I put paper over his substrate in viv (which is tortoise bedding, so not as small as aspen anyway) and hold the mouse over that end so when he strikes and constricts, he is over the paper.
For my hoggie, (hatched July) I bring him out into a shallow plastic container, and about 5 to 10 mins after eating, I slide my hand under him and move him back into his viv. |

This is a piccy thread of how i fee mine: http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1741
Bit picture heavy, but show how i feed.
RUBS are the way, they come in handy for so much. When i bring them into my snake class they go in the boxes, and when i bring any of the other animals in (even the ducks) they go into the poly box. |
