Thing is, I'm a student and am often up at odd times of the day slaving over some coursework etc, and my corn snake is in my room, I was just wondering, would such irregular periods of lighting bother her at all? I know corn snakes don't need light, but I havn't seen anywhere where it says that they don't care about it.

Mine don't mind at all and I do the same. If you are really worried about it, pehaps put a blanket over the viv at night?

Not a daft question at all They do need to be able to desinguish between day and night, so constant light could possibly confuse them a bit. As long as there isnt much direct light shining into the viv it shouldnt be a problem though.

i agree with matty, the (day)light length also tells them the season - shorter days in winter, longer in summer. if it's low light such as a lamp i wouldn't be overly concerned, if it's a strong bright light i'd probably do what Ell suggested - cover the viv.

Don't get me started on Circadian Rhythms and Periodicity again. I've been studying it for my research project.

In the immortal words of Homer Simpson "Every time I learn something new, something else falls out of my brain".

Basically, yes it can cause problems, mental and possibly physiological. Providing that you don't leave the light on constantly for more than a few days it should recover and show no adverse effects.

It doesn't have to be direct into the tank as far as I'm aware, more just general light. Most people that light corn snake vivs etc use a low UVB tube purely for aesthetic reasons.

I'd generally recommend covering up 3 sides of the viv so the snakes feels less exposed, but particularly if there's issues of lights on all night (studying of course!)

Thats a very good idea, with the covering of three sides of the viv that is.
I should have thought of that ^^;
I'll do that when I've finished this essay I ought to be getting on with ^^;
