so guys been reading a few forums and doing some research and i cant decide and would like to ask you guys...

Rat pups v Mice...

what are your ideas/opinions on which is best for corns and royals with relation to fat content and nutrional value.

i would assume rats have more fat content and less calcium content due to bones being not as formed and less active, where as mice would have less fat but more calcium due to being fully grown and more active.

wot you think???

I think rats are better. I think it was saddleninja (sorry if im wrong) that fed his corn on rat pups instead of the same sized mice and it grew alot quicker and bigger.

you're right about the nutritional difference dazb, personally i prefer to feed mice and save rat pups for a treat or for variety every now and again

Both have benefits but snakes do seem to grow more on rats.

but that maybe due to the high fat content of RP, but fast weight gain is not always best for the snakes health.

i know some people 'power feed' their snake to reach breeding size quicker but this has it down sides due to health problems and shortened life span.

Rats can also be easier to feed as they have more scent. My Corn strikes for Rats but not Mice.

i know i will eventually have to get my royal to eat them so considering the switch for her but not sure about my corns. was gonna try my corn on one and see how he got on.

because of the higher fat content would you leave leave it a longer between feeds?
cos of the low calcium content would you add a calcium suppliment?

Same here. My Royal has been reared on mice but is soon being converted to weaner rats. I have his mice in a bag with some rats to scent them. Am sure he will take to rats.
