Hi... just bought tank and snake off former owner that's had him for a year. Viv using dimmer stat (earth something or something earth make) and 100w red spot, no heat mat. Guy who had him for last year has always put temp up to 30 deg around 9am and lowered to 24 deg around 10pm. Have put two dial type guages in - one each end, and these show variation in temps as would expect.
Seems healthy, interested etc., sheds and eats well from records, but I have just seen in a post on the health forum something about probe should be in the warm end of viv. This guy has probe set up in cool end, and has even marked back of tank where it should go.
Does this vary with the type of set up etc? as all seems to have been well with way he has been keeping him for last year?
Sorry to be a worrier, but all this new to me... cheers.. J |

The thermostat should stop the viv getting too hot, so its best to have the probe at the hot end. I would also suggest a digital thermometer if possible as the dial ones are very inaccurate. |

Absolutely.
I have mine a couple of inches above the substrate so the lower level is at temp, the rest of the heat rises. If you change the probe to the other end, will that effect any vents? You might find that you may get slight condensation internally as the temp range changes. Its also likely that you will need to adjust and balance the temp gradient again, as the cool end probe temp will then be at the warm end position. Make sense? |
