Can things get any worse?!
I'm cleaning out the babies beds today and as they are very messy I put them in a criter cage whilst cleaning. The one that hasn't eaten is alive but quite listless, but he's not the problem.
My brown snake was very active in the cage and I noticed that 1/3 of the way down its spine there is what looks like a break. I keep trying to email the pics to photobucket but to no aval so I'm going to explain it with a silly diagram - it looks like this: _______/\________ _______/\________ the angle is not as acute but it has a clear
triangular point both on top and under its belly so that section of its belly does not touch the ground. As I said he was very active but he also didn't feed last night which is unusual as he is particularly greedy. Sorry about not having a pic, but if you think you know what I mean is it life threatening and can it be fixed?

I've heard of 'kinky' corns before, but usually they've been kinked since they hatched. if yours is moving, eating and pooing normally then that's a good sign but I'd recommend you take it to a specialist rep vet. The Royal Sam rescued recently had broken ribs, she might be be the best person for advice till you can get an appointment. keep us posted Tipsy |

Where can I get vet insurance from and will I need to wait two weeks for the insurance to kick in? He definitely did not have a kink when born. My husband picked it up about two weeks ago and it went mental, doing a super-fast lassoo movement continuously. I didn't see it, and he only handled it because it was escaping - could this have caused the damage? |

for small fluffies PetPlan cover immediately for accidents but only after 2 weeks for illness. (I'm a PetPlan appointed representative for work ) this is a link from the PetPlan site http://www.exoticdirect.co.uk/index.php?fuseaction=home.formstart&aff=a919# I've not read through it but it might be worth taking out? |

just read the small print, reps have to be minimum of 12 weeks old before they'll cover them. |

So what do you think a check up will cost - I really don't want to stress it and if it is life-threatening and eeds fixed then an anaesthetic would kill it at such a young age! What to do? |

1st consultation where I work is around £20, we don't do reps but I don't think it would be hugely different.
it might be something that will improve, or stabilise with no detriment to the snake, or if it's something more serious the vet will explain the options and risks associated with it.
sorry if this sounds a bit harsh but if it happened 2 weeks ago, try not to stress about it too much till you can talk to a vet on Monday tipsy. |

I'm not too stressed, just a little disappointed that ones not eating and ones a bit Kinky. Lets hope No.3 has no problems! |

More ikey to be a birth defect than something that you have caused. I had two hatch with kinks in the tail. One was so bady kinked that one of his hemipenes was hanging out. They are both ok, and heathy, just now with only slight kinks, which may or may not grow out. Make sure when you feed, you dust the pinks with calcium powder to help bone structure, and get an xray as soon as you can. |

Have you got better pics yet? If not, then mail them to me: Mensa_reject at hotmail dot com I'll get them up here for people to see. May help you, if only to let you relax a little bit more.
