Hi all - new forum member and new snake owner. We have had Bubbles for 3 weeks now and he's gorgeous. He seems very healthy and has shed this week. Just wondered if anyone can answer a couple of questions that aren't in the books we've read:
We didn't ask the seller how old the snake is - is there any way you can estimate age? How do you know when your snake is ready to move up from pinkies? Bubbles is about 13 inches long and currently has one pinkie once a week. He's eating well but not sure how we tell when he's ready for more!
Thanks in anticipation.

As for the age, that's quite difficult as they all grow at different rates, sound like quite a youngun though, someone with more snakes will probably be able to make a better estimate. As for food, a rough rule of thumb is the food should be no more than 1.5 x the width of the snake, and you should still be able to see a noticeable lump for a few hours afterwards. when it's time to move up you can also feed a couple of pinkies rather than moving straight on to fuzzies. This will make it easier to digest.
oops forgot to say welcome |

Put a picture up Abbie and we'll have fun guess-timating the age for you. Best if you use something recognisable as a size comparison too |

Before you move up to fuzzies try offering an additional pinkie if Bubbles doesn't retreat to their hide after eating as they may want another. I'd guess that you snake was at least 2 months old as you've had them for 3 weeks and most people like to give 4 or 5 feeds prior to selling. |

heya abbiegreenleaf 2-3 months sounds likely as kaz and BE have already said. if you offer bubbles a second pinky and he's not interested just stick to feeding one, then try second helpings again in a months time. it's best to feed multiple (2-3) smaller prey items before moving up to the next size. |
