just after Christmas, my corn, Cherry, started having very odd problems with here left eye. It started to become bigger and bigger, full of clear liquid.
After taking her to see a number of specialists and a couple of vets (most of which looked at her in confusion and said they had no idea what was wrong) i took here to the people who look after Chester Zoo's snakes. they announced here to have a block tear duct, drained the fluid and sent me on my way with the instruction to come back if it got bad again, but she should get bigger and shift it herself.

Well she didn't, 5 months and numerous trips to the vet later, her eye got so bad it has had to be removed (poor cherry).

she has always continued to be good natured and active through the problem, eating and shedding perfectly (including both eye caps).

she came back from the vets today, and i have been told to feed her today or tomorrow.

I was wondering if anyone else has seen this in corn's as it stumped pretty much all the vets and specialists i saw?

And also if anyone can give me any advice on caring for a corn snake with only one eye?

That is quite odd. Snakes having tear ducts is news to me. I wouldnt care for it any differantly than a normal snake.

I just had her out to feed, she was fine, brilliant actually, took the mouse instantly, no problem at all. But she is very very jumpy and nervous.

after this picture was taken she Shed, complete and without problem, both eye caps where there.

This is a pic of her eye 4 days ago, yesterday morning before i took her into the vet it was just under twice this size, and had blood across the top of the eyecap. At which point the vets stopped telling me to wait and see what happened.

That's terrible! Bless the poor little girl! That photo really scared me though I must say...

I have never heard of snaks and tear ducts since the eyecaps should protect the eye so tear ductrs arn't needed but don't hold me to that. I would say It might have been an infectoin maybe or something behind the eye.

I really hope she recovers well!

A very special super, duper thanks for K :3

when it first happened i thought it must be an infection but the vet tested the liquid from here eye and it was completely clean. That is why they told me to wait and see what happened as she got older. Sadly it just got worse.

i fed her about an hour ago and she is sleeping now i think, don't really want to stress her out any more today, but i'll get a picture tomorrow when i give her the stuff the vet gave me.
I'm a little worried about giving it to her to be honest, have to make her swallow some antibiotics or something but i don't want to knock where her stitches are.

it really does seem that know one has ever seen this before, which is worrying. But at the same time i'm slightly relived because it means no one else will have the same problem, and i don't have to worry about it happening to other snakes.

Tried to take a picture of her today, sorry that its not great.
you can kind of see the stitches. I gave cherry her meds today, its really hard to get them to sit still while you try and put something in there mouth, and i can't help be feel incredibly mean.

sorry for the confusion about which eye it is. It is the left eye that was bad and has been removed, but I took one of the pictures with my Mac's built in cam which flips the image for some reason, acts like a mirror. It is her Left that has been removed.

I know it may feel mean Amy, but what you are doing is probably saving Cherry's life. If she didnt have those antibiotics then she would get an infection and die....that is how you must look at it every time you have to hold her down and force it into her mouth.

I am just so glad she is with an owner who is willing to fight for her life, I know many other owners would have not gone to the trouble and spent the money you have if they were faced with the same problem....but would probably have left their snakes to die. Cherry is a very blessed snake having you for her owner.
