Hey welcome to the forum.
Do you know about the 1 week rule? it is advised that you do not handle your corn for 1 week, leaving him be to settle in only entering his faun for spot checks and dailt water changes.
If you have any questions try using the search function on the top right of this page as more than likely it has already been asked, if you can't find what your looking for then make a thread in the relevant section, chances are somebody else also wants to know. |

Hey everyone, thanks for the welcomes! Dannybrown - no I didn't know about the 1 week rule. The lady I got him from said it was fine to handle him straight away! But after posting something else on here this morning it turns out she's maybe given me alot of wrong info. He was fed yesterday, due to be fed again next Saturday so think i'll leave him alone now until then. |

I would just leave him be untill next sunday now, then feed him and leave him another 48 hours.
Did you know not to handle for 48 hours after a feed? Handling them to soon after a feed can cause them to reguritate the mouse.
If you got all your info from a rep shop its quite possible that alot of it is wrong so make sure you have a good look through the care sheet and be sure to ask any questions.
Do you have a thermostat and digi thermometer? If you bought a starter kit from a rep shop many don't include these crucial pieces of kit. |

Hi Welcome to the forum. You've already gathered we're a friendly, helpful lot on here. We're nosey too and demand photos of your snake when it's settled in. What a shame the shop gave you some duff advice, such a common problem. I guess to them pets are just business and a source of income. Thank goodness you found the forum and have got plenty of reading material on here to give you solid, sound information. |

Hi Carly, it is really good that you have joined us! This is a great forum with lots of experienced owners happy to give their advice and support. You also get lots of fun and friendship .
I am sorry you werent told about the one-week no feeding/handling period, but not surprised. It really is necessary to allow your snake to get over the stress of the move and for it to get used to the new smells and its new surroundings. This means just putting your hand in to change the water daily and straighten the substrate, so it can get used to your smell and not be threatened by you. You mustnt worry about your corn not feeding for that week (which is why Danny suggests you wait the full week rather than feed on the expected feeding day), corns are a lot hardier than we realise and going for a week without food will not do them any harm, no matter how small they are. As you have found, you are rarely advised this in a lot of pet shops but it is an important way of getting your snake to de-stress and feel safe with you. It is a hard week, very frustrating, but worth it for the snake's sake.
You will find that there is a large amount of conflicting information out there about corn keeping – on the internet, in books, etc. Even on here you will find that people have different opinions.....but at least you have a place to ask what you need to know and get the answers from experienced owners. Then you can decide what to do with what you are told.
As you have discovered, many pet shops cannot be trusted with what they are telling you . I know that I double check anything I am told on here. Remember that no question is regarded as a silly question .....it is much better asked and answered, you will probably find others who want the info too! Danny has already mentioned the first place to look, the search button...type in what you are worried about and see if you can find an answer. I know you can get swamped with different topics including what you are searching for, so it is a bit daunting but worth a look. If you cant find the answer you are looking for then dont hesitate to ask! And I am so glad that you are already asking questions and getting the help that you need .
Hopefully when you got your snake you were able to get as much info about him as possible....shedding history, feeding history etc. I keep my own 'Snake Diaries', noting things like weight, length, feeding dates and what you feed, shedding dates, health problems, when you do full viv cleans. I know it seems a bit over the top but it is actually really helpful keeping track of your snake's health - I even note when Kellog and Silvesta poo !!
Unwritten forum rule - pics as soon as possible! This link will help - http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=14
A warning - corn snakes are addictive.....and yes, the majority of us have stood up, said "hello my name is ****, I am addicted to corns........! And I am proud of it!" You have just started down that corn path so be warned!!
I look forward to getting to know you better.
