SO!

My friend works at a vet's practice as a receptionist. She gave me a call yesterday evening to ask if I wanted a "new four legged friend" so i asked when etc...dog...cat...pony... Snake? (YES- I asked if it was a snake... DERR!) so she said a tortoise. The vets had been contacted by one of their clients who's wife is terminal with cancer and that he is unable to cope with "both" while she is ill. So the story I got was that it was a 75yr old male tortoise- I said YES! Ive ALWAYS wanted a tortoise- then ran the idea past the resat of the family who also all said yes- Mummy used to have a tort when she was younger and so did my Pa.

So...

My number was passed onto the man yesterday by the vet - the chap gave me a call this morning on my mobile but as I was working had it on silent...missed the call...

SO!!!

I rang him back this evening... TURNS out that he has 2 torts (hence the "Both") and that the Boy torty is a Bit too frisky with the girlie torty and gets his "Bits" hurt and as they have had the girl- Betty for 3-4 years they want to rehome her- so that the man doesnt have to worry about 2 tortoises.

So Betty has been owned by them for 3/4 years. She was found by the police wandering the streets with shell damage :( Which was fixed by the Vet who works at the practice where my friend works - he said that it looks a bit like polyfiller! After her shell was fixed posters were put up by him and the police but no-one came forward to claim her... I did ask what type of tortoise she is but he said that he doesnt know but that her shell is 8 inches long.

SO!!!!!!!! (im SOO excited I may just burst- OR be sick!!)

I am going to see Betty tomorrow after work!!

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*Bounces around the room and off the ceiling*

I can just imagine your reaction to that call Amanda (and you bouncing off ceiling with excitement !!)

It is great news and what is even better is that not only are you getting something you want but you are also helping out someone who is in a terribly difficult situation....so well done .

Definitely want pics as soon as Betty is home !

There are some great tort tables around, worth a look on some other sites,

really natural too! I saw one thread about 20 pages long of some fella's progress for a huge indoor and outdoor one.
