So Ginger hadn't eaten since his long shed in december. Past two weeks I tried feeding him his usual mouse and he stuck but didn't eat it. So yesterday I was getting Mouse's fluff out the freezer and figured I would try to get him to eat one of them, then he will have atleast eaten something. Well put one in with him and after about 5 minutes of looking at it he swallowed it down, so he ended up with mouses one too. First time i've watched him completely eat. Gonna try him on a small mouse next week, if he takes that i'll try him with two. Then see if I can get him back on his normal feeds if he takes two smalls.
It was also his first feed outside the viv I figured I'd try himw hile he was in the rub while i cleaned him out and he still ate so I'm rather happy because hes actually eaten something and because he ate outside the viv. Right now I'm gonna go fish out another fluff for mouse to eat and defrost that lol good think they only little and don't take long to defrost.

Yes did think that myself but if it works it works! Its fantastic news, glad to hear it. The worrying can be a nightmare but in reality (as long as its not an illness obviously) if they choose to leave the food they're quite happy; its us who freak out!

Yep I got the same thing with Colin he wont eat at the moment I tried him on a small mouse last night and he had a good sniff round it but left it. Its been three weeks now so its starting to get a little worrying but he is happy and alert (super alert in fact) and I think he prob wants some snakey loving so I will keep at it till he does feed (hope its soon) but congrats on getting yours to scoff again

Yeah makes it worse for me coz there is a nice girly snake just across the room from him (although she is way too small) I think he has caught whiff of her. Everytime you get him out he makes a bee line for her viv lol

Snakey love!

My male didn't eat from start of December to 2nd week of January so similar to you (elament and twi) but happened a few months prior. Elament (as per my post on your thread) I'm hopeful and sure he's got other things on his mind! And he'll realise its unobtainable (at least until the female is bigger!) and go back to eating!

I think these are the ones I had before I dropped them down the stairs before the move. they weigh in 1g increments and upto 5kg so more than enough for the snake + a container to hold him in while you weigh:

EDIT: They are the ones! Bought a new pair from argos as I was in a hurry. The one above was very good and sturdy-it was from the top of the stairs with no carpet!

I went through this with Kellog when I first got him. Having been told he was a great feeder with no problems I brought him home and he decided to go 13 weeks without feeding ! You can imagine my reaction as a newbie who knew very little about corns! That is when I found this forum and they kept me sane (while I drove them crazy ) and I really dont know what I would have done without them....poor them, they have been stuck with me ever since!

What I learnt was that by weighing him I was able to see that although he was not eating he was not losing a lot of weight. Think he lost under 50g in the whole 13 weeks (that is going from my very bad memory so I could be totally wrong , you know what I am like!). I just had to persist in offering him the food on his normal feeding day, leave it in overnight, then remove it the next morning. Until one morning he suddenly struck!! You can imagine my shock and joy and excitement and......

The point is, his slow weight loss and his behaviour showed it was a natural fast as opposed to an 'unnatural' one...as in him being ill - but I wouldnt have known that without the guidance of the guys on here.

So glad Ginger fed Twi and I hope he continues to do so and you can increase him back up to what he needs soon.

xxx

Yeah I remember when I first got ginger home, he had been eating 2 large mice a week and the hatchlings pinkies if they didnt eat. So I was freaking out when after over a month of having him he still hadn't eaten. Thats when I googled and found the forum lol

LOL The snake in question looks a bit like your ginger as well. Guess I just gotta suck it and see until he gets bored of being "seasonal" lol

editted to add: I do know one thing though I am dumping the attempts to get him to feed out of the viv until he started eating again

Gingers 4ft 7 now, no idea how old he is though so im not sure if hes going to grow more on not. Hes usually very secretive with his feeding, wont eat if you watching him lol Turned out the first time all i was doing was preparing the mice wrong for him. I was drying the mice and he's used to eating them wet. Buy some small mice for him when I get paid see if I can gethim on soemthing smaller lol don't fancy having to feed him 20 fluffs to fill him up haha

Colin is just shy of three foot. He isnt shy about his feeding at all normally (I have to use tongs)and I was hoping to get him to feed outside the viv as I once had to wrestle some aspen out of his gob shortly after a meal and I take all sorts of precautions with him but he still managed to pick up some but my attempts have been cut short by this fast he seems to be on. Its been three weeks he been off the feed now and I am doing me best not to freak out as all the signs are there. He is constantly trying to break out of the viv for one and I mean all times of the day not just at night like before. You can watch him go all round the glass looking for a weak spot. Then he checks out the vents at the back. Then he resorts to sitting there looking at you with an almost accusing look on his face. In all the time i have had him I can honestly say I have never seen him so active. Its literally 24/7 at the moment.

Editted to add: One thing I have also noticed is when you get him out his tongue seems to be in overdrive but that could be I have just recently got another snake

I find easiest way to stop ginger from swallowing aspen with his meal is to shift half the aspen to the other side of the viv and feed him on clear side cause usually he wont eat outside the viv either
