Well, didn't want to post straight away what has been happening in case it was a one off, but Croc has now regurgitated his feed 2 times in a row and is looking pretty sorry for himself.
He regurgitated a rat pup and fuzzy mouse first of all, and by the state of them they hadn't stayed down very long.
I gave him 10 days and tried just a rat pup, but again it has come back up, more digested but still recognizable.
If it was one of my healthy snakes I would maybe wait and try again, but given his shady past and body condition I'm not willing to take any chances.
He has got an appointment for 4.30 this afternoon, so wish us both luck, I know it sounds a bit heartless but I hope its not too dear, I'm on a restricted budget!!
Of course, if he need medicine or treatment he will get it with no questions asked, but I am really hoping it is something easily treatable and not too costly.
Will keep you updated. |

doesn't sound heartless at all. i know what it's like. i need a new phone but don't want to spend loads because of the reps. when i go to the pet shop my dad always looks and says "ooooow, look at this, it's really nice and would look lovely in monty's tank, only 20 quid" and then i have to buy other stuff aswell. not heartless at all SB. |

Not good news I'm afraid.
He has 2 different types of internal parasites- pinworms and another type of flagellate parasite.
He also weighs less now than he did when I got him- 123g. The vet was horrified by how thin he is and said she has never seen a snake in his condition still alive. He is now on 2 different types of oral wormer type stuff, and is to continue with the reptoboost, as well as having Critical Care formula.
The vet has said there is most likely an underlying problem, either liver or kidneys, which is mainly to blame for his condition, as the worms and eggs present in the fecal count shouldn't be enough to affect him this much. I have the option of sending him in for blood tests and gastric lavages, but not only will it cost the better part of £150, but chances are they will kill him by doing it.
I have to try tiny meals little and often and hope they stay down, but she was quite blunt and said he looks too far gone to pull through. Its more a case of trying to keep him alive.
So guys, wish Croc your best and hopefully he will find the strength to keep fighting. x |

Sorry to hear the bad news SB, and just as we thought he was going to get better. Must have been a devastating blow, but he has held on so far so is obviously a fighter. Hope he makes it through.
Fingers crossed. |

I'm really sorry for you and Croc Rach.
I really hope for some sort of improvement in his condition. I don't use this "general section" of the forum as much as the main help part so I've just read this. Was he a rescue then? Someone who couldn't get him to feed?
In your last comment about being attached so quickly is something I can vouch for. With Chester, when the vet decided it was best for him to be put to sleep (I only had him 3 weeks or so) I cried loads. I'm 24 and before that I haven't cried for over 3 years! I just couldn't control it. They are little wonders and we love them instantly!
As you know I used TRP site and got a lot of understanding and advice from everyone there- including you!
I really hope he pulls through for himself and you. Keep us posted as I'm sure you will. |

Thanks Bengy thats dead sweet.
I bought him out of a "specialist" reptile shop because he looked like a skeleton basically- here is the original thread
http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=7996
Not great pics, but they get the message across.
I'm just devastated that when he seemed to be getting better (his weight had gone up to 130g) he has now gone completely the other way.
Good news is- Croc is still with us this morning and looks to be going into shed. Second lots of wormer today and hopefully he has had some of his special calorie shake lol. |

I can't believe I just read that. I'm really sad and really angry!
It doesn't make it any better for Croc but I can (almost) understand his sorry state if he was a rescue from someone who was not experienced at assist feeding or similar (it happens but thats what vets are for; or at least a forum)- but for a shop, which has most likely not even fed him!? You only have to check my last post to see that the last place i thought you'd have got him was a "specialist" shop.
And to know there's a boa there that is sadly sounding like he's going to live out the rest of his days in such poor conditions....
As there hasn't seemed to be an update recently; I take it there's no response from SSPCA? It's criminal! Although it should never happen in the first place but unless these guys impose some sort of ban or hefty fine, these people will not learn. (Though I'd want them all to have a hefty fine and never be allowed pets again- then all of us on here will take on the stock!)
Anyway sorry for my rant, it probably hasn't helped you... Back to Croc:
It really sounded positive towards the end of the original thread for Croc's improvement, I'm even more sad for you and Croc now. I really hope that the potions he is having have a better result than the vet hopes. Hopefully she is just covering herself by saying it may be too late? I sure hope so.
Sorry I can't be more help, as you know my experience with snakes' health in terms of vet and medication is limited. Though if it comes to it I perhaps wouldn't put him through the more "invasive" testing, as you said he probably wouldn't make it.
I am holding out hope for you though as he did manage a few meals before the first regurge so perhaps there is still a fighting chance!
Good luck Rach.... All the best. |

Forgot to say: The shed sounds encouraging! Obviously you don't need me to tell you maybe a feed after a shed maybe more successful. |

I have had some experience with pin worm in leos, and flaggewhatevers, I have to ask, how does the vet know? Something like that needs to be tested by a vetlab. What did he give you to treat it? Panacur is the best for pins, I can't remember the other stuff for flaggewhatevers. I have an idea, I will email you. |
