Hello everyone, I've just returned from my reptile shop... After explaining to them about Friedrich's unfortunate passing, they offered to sell me another for the price they paid (they also said that if I'd taken them the body, they could have got a free one from their dealer... But I gave the little fella a decent burial and wake over the weekend, which I feel is more appropriate than just saving some money). So I'm pleased to welcome Friedrich II into his new home; he's a bit older and a lot more confident, so fingers crossed, but I think everything should be ok this time. He's already found his cool hide after doing a little exploring, and seems alright so far.
Also, I was wondering what you guys would recommend when it comes to playing music around snakes? I know that they "hear" through vibrations in the ground, so I know that dubstep isn't really a good idea, heh, but can I listen to music around him at all? Has anyone ever suspected their snakes might like any music? I know it's a cliche and might not be true, but don't snake charmers get cobras to dance by playing a little wind instrument? Obviously I'm not gonna crank anything loud to find out, but it would be nice if Friedrich could enjoy some of the same sounds as I do. |
RIP baby Friedrich. |

Glad to hear you have another snake.
I dont have music on too loud in the same room as my snakes. When snake charmers make cobras rise out of a basket, its because the cobras are watching the end of the flute. A snake isnt going to enjoy music the snake same way as it isnt going to enjoy the company of its owner, but dont play it loud and it will be fine. |

Lovely to hear about Friedrich 2!!
I listen to music around my snakes, not too loud, and it never seems to bother them.
I would keep it quite low though whilst he is settling in |

Ditto about the music & none in the 1st week to give him the best environment.
Excellent news though Jack and I hope Friedrich II settles in well this week and is full of health and beans!
Some photos will be good too when he lets you! And if there are any queries then ask along the way!

All sounds good mate, glad you didnt pack it in! Snakes wont hear music the same way you will, he will only hear the resonant vibrations, so not very pleasnt for them really. Snake charmers dont use the music to make the cobra do anything, it cant hear it, its all for out benefit! The snake responds to the movements of the instrument used. |

i dunno if this is a coincidence, but Blaze is not very active until the middle of the night, except the one time since ive had him that my bf has played his acoustic guitar next to him! He came right out to the front of the viv+stayed there for ages! Maybe the vibrations had something to do with it? |

If I was you I wpuldnt go too mad, as suggested, snakes are highly sensitive to vibrations, the snake won't hear the music you play, just passive vibrations through the viv. |

Its lovely to hear you all excited again. I hope your relationship with Friedrich II will be a long and happy one. Can't wait to see some pics once his settling in period is over. If I was you I would leave the music for a few weeks until you know how he responds to a constant environment. Then when you do play music near him you will be able to detect any behaviour changes. |

Jack, I am so pleased to hear that you have now got a new corn...and that you gave Friedrich I the burial you felt he needed to help you with your grieving process for him.
I am also glad that you have gone for something that bit older and more confident, as I know you will need your confidence building after your recent experience.
Just remember...the forum is always here to help, support and laugh with - anytime, day or night (says she posting at 5.20am!!)
