Yeah I think they just make it up to get a sale!
Possibly around 18 months old I'd say but depends on weight too.
That stat is fine, its Habitat's version of the one I suggested. Both are perfectly fine and built for the job. The other Microclimate one was a bit cheaper though; the brand of product doesn't matter as long as you get a reputable one so feel free to shop around in future. |

and dont trust the dial on it all thermostats rarely do what they say on the dial. If you havent got one already get a digital thermometer with a probe. |

Even if the box says: "correct to within +/- 1*C!"

a 3ft corn will be happy in a 3x1 or if you really wanted him to have a bit of space you could use a 3x2 although its up to you.. |

In a 3 foot viv would the stat probe and thermoator prob still need to be placed on top of aspen i thought the stat probe would go on mat? |

I put both together using a rubber band or electrical ties then place directly on a piece of vinyl* that covers the mat, not on the aspen. If you put them on the aspen (or other substrate) the temperature of the mat will be much higher than 30*C in order to penetrate the aspen and get the top of the aspen to 27-30*C.
Even though the snake may be on top of the substrate most of the time, they will burrow underneath right onto the hot mat.
Which is why when using a mat I don't put any aspen in the hide at all, I'd use a small piece of vinyl same size as the mat; and only a light sprinkling outside where the rest of the mat is. To give them burrowing fun and a medium to poop on, I put loads of aspen everywhere else other than the mat.
EDIT: * People use vinyl as its an excellent heat conductor and sits between the mat and the snake. |

I'd still leave him though for 4 or 5 days. Let him explore- he's obviously slowly building his confidence to come out of his hide. Go in his viv for water changes and poop cleaning. Also grab a handful of aspen and rub in your hands and return it to the viv; this'll leave your scent for him to learn without the stressing of the holding. |
