Making the prey or the head of the prey very hot, usually with a hair dryer or hot water. |

Would certainly be very careful about 'super heating' the head....you dont want Asuka to burn her mouth. You just need to warm it with a hairdryer, as SB suggested, but not to the point of being hot.

The prey will rarely get hot enough to burn if done sensibly, I'm not saying to do it until scalding point. |

Not contradicting you SB , just offering a word of warning! Your advise is always spot on!

Was gonna say ha, well I think I've found that asuka is very fussy over her food, she will reject cold pinkies almost right away whereas if there slightly warmed up it's gone! But yeah we don't want scolded mouths so I'll make sure that there 'not' piping hot right through! |

This is not too surprising Josh, when you think about it the snakes are used to warm-blooded prey...not frozen blooded prey !! Also, warming the pinkie slightly increases the smell of 'dinner' and makes their hunting instincts kick in. Glad it helps with Asuka....and as snake owners we do anything that will help our snakes.

Corns generally arent fussy over warm food or cold food, they dont sense the heat of prey like something like a viper would, but they do seem to have a sixth sense to it so to speak. Its not generally the 'norm' for a snake to be fussy just after a shed, but then all animals are different so maybe yours has a special quirk! Braining is usually enough to kick the feeding instict in, i dont find with corns that heating/super heating makes any difference, but as said, some snakes are fussy like that! As the snake gets older, i think you will find that feeding becomes less of a hassle, and more of a rush to get it down! lol |
