Last night i set up my new viv (see photo section)...
I moved stellas faun, to put the viv underneath it, and her heat mat had cracked the cabinet underneath.
Its an oak cabinet i think, solid wood.
Would this happen to the viv when its inside?
If so should i put polystyrene underneath it?
Thanks

Gaz I looked at your pics and the heatmat in that viv will be fine. Your cabinet cracked because its made of real wood and as such heat can crack it. Your viv is made of plastic laminate chipboard which responds a different way to heat. It will be fine in there mate |

36 x 18.5
Its the VX36 model from viv exotic.
As for the heatmat in the viv it will be fine, like elament said it is made of chipboard and reacts differently to heat.
It dosn't help that oak is also a hard wood. |

Even so, a 30c heat I wouldn't have thought would crack it. I'm assuming the mat does have a stat? |

Thanks for replies.
I need to upgrade mats as the one in the viv at the moment is an 11" x 11" and ive been advised to get an 11" x 17".
It has got a very good digital stat yeh, it never gets above 30c.
Thanks

I'm with Kehhlyr, a 30c mat shouldnt be able to crack wood. It can withstand human body temp, and we are roughly 37c.
It will be fine in the viv. |

Could it be because its hard wood? It has cracked the grain right open (about 3mm-5mm)
Thanks

Maybe the wood had slight dampness, the mat could have had a drying effect on it? |

Cheers,
Mine is 18" so will perhaps get a 17" x 11" to be on the safe side.
Thanks

id say its just due to it having a constant heat to it and its just dryed out and opened the grain up thats why real wood furniture has to treated and waxed etc to stop it drying and cracking |

No worries.
Her last shed was 4 weeks ago and about 22" in length. So she was about 20" then, and has grown a bit since.
She weighs about 32g at the moment.
She is 8 months old, but was on a maintenence diet before i got her. Shes was 12g when i got her 2 months ago, so shes growing fast.
