We had to bring Aura home last saturday from the rep shop as they had been looking after her since october and trying to get her feeding for us.. anyway they tried everything they could but with no luck so we felt it was time for us to try again..
after leaving her for a week to settle in a bit and to see if it would make her hungry at all I decided tonight id try and feed her..decided on mouse tail as its the easiest thing for her to swallow and although its got not a lot of goodness in its better than nothing - didnt want to over load her little system!
anyway long story short.. after getting her mouth open i managed to pop the tail in and with the tiniest bit of encouragement she then started to swallow it herself!!
it sounds like such a little thing but when she was at the shop she used to tear about frantically trying to get rid of food placed in her mouth and its the first time since october that shes had food in her.. am so pleased with her - she looked rather happy with herself after aswell..
hopefully in 5days time she'll be the same and need not much encouragement but might try her with a pathetically small pinkie thats been chopped up
fingers crossed!! |

as it's only a mouse tail she'll prolly digest it well within 24hours so every 3-4 days - not what i'd recommend usually but hers is an extreme case hun
and i've got a big tub of Reptoboost too hun, i'm worried it'll go out of date before i use it or give it all away!! lol so i keep trying........... |

Hannah, that is fantastic news...I know what a big thing it is for her to do this and how much you have been through with her. You worked so hard with her before she went to the pet shop and now she has come home (according to them a lost cause!) you have managed to get her to take a mouse tail and not try to get rid of it as soon as it was placed into her mouth! That is amazing !!
I know that you know that this is one feed and there is no way to know how she will react the next time you feed her....but this is such a positive step and you are so committed to your snakes that she is definitely in the right place.
You know you are Aura (and Luke) are in my thoughts.

thank you
im determined to get her eating and to get her back on track - shes the special snake and it was heartbreaking when she wouldnt eat,she was small when we got her (and still is) but its strange now thinking that she might actually start growing and shedding again..shes only shed once and lukes got that so im after a shed of hers for my book lol when we got all the new snakes at donny in september she was 6grams and edison was 8..now aura is about 5gs and edison is at 40..you honestly would think that shes a really early '10 hatchie..
when shes eating ok il get some new pics of her |

It might be worth trying something like CCF, critical care formula, it has everything they need to grow, and an appetite stimulant, if she hasnt eaten ina long time, its possible her digestive system has shut down, which means you need to take it very slowly on the feeding, otherwise she just wont be able to digest it. Nest time she has a crap, try and get some on what you are feeding her, the enzymes in thepoopwill help boost her digestive system, hopefully jump start it! Really hope she does well, i am sure with time and dedication, you will have a lovely little snake thats growing like a weed in no time!

thanks,
mike shes been given reptoboost since she missed her first feed with me back in september, am going to take it slow - shes going to be on tails for the next 2-3feeds and then going to try her with a small bit of pinkie but if she doesnt take it then shes back on tails for a bit longer or if she will take it bits of chick thighs, fingers crossed |

Glad to hear that you have her back! It's great news that you've managed to get something in her little belly, we hope that she continues to eat the tails and progresses well for you both after such a difficult time.
Best wishes to the three of you! |
