Think you might benefit from paneling it off slightly as it looks a bit dwarfed in there. Unless you took a lot of hides and husbandary out to get better photo? Nice snake though.

the viv is what the pet shop owner suggested when i got him. he's about 1.5 ft at the moment himself. I removed the hide that he was under while taking the shots and there is another hide at the other end of the viv. going to get some branches etc. soon to fill it out a bit.

yes i agree with bengy_s, the viv seems slightly big compared to Eugene, and is the reason i asked the actual size of viv
i admit i am no expert on size of vivs compared to size of snake, but i thought i would bring up my concern incase someone more educated in this matter could help out

if you are going to kit the viv out with branches, plants etc then i think it will be ok because he will have more places to hide and feel secure

What a beautiful snake ! How old is Eugene?

I must admit that I agree with Chrissy and Bengy about having concerns regarding the size of the viv. I know it is what the pet shop suggested but unfortunately pet shops often dont give the best advice .

Normal rule we recommend is the Long + short sides of the viv be about equal to the entire length of the snake. Therefore the long + short sides of the viv should equal 1.5 ft, and you are saying that the length of the viv is longer than the length of Eugene. This can cause stress to a corn as in the wild they stay out of open spaces except when they hunt. I know you can pack out the viv with hides, plants and branches but it will probably still be too big.

Benjy's advice is good though, about maybe partitioning off some of it to reduce the size and then you could enlarge it as he grows?

Eugene's about 6mths old (i think), absolutely adorable!!!!

Thanks for the advice about the size of the viv as well people. He seems to like he open spaces and is always slithering about inside, but will try partitioning the viv and see how he goes. Will keep you all informed.

(oh and we're also about to add to our "reptile family" as my daughter has asked for a Bearded Dragon for her birthday, and who is daddy to say no??? lol)

Cool Shaka. You certainly seem to be giving him the due care and attention! The good thing is when he's big enough for the whole viv, you already have one!

A rough guide for length of viv required is: Length of viv + one side = length of snake. Eg. you viv will be fine until Eugine is in the region of 3.5 feet!

My corn is on the large side at about 5 foot 8 or so. She has a 3.5 foot X 1.5 foot viv. Ideally I need a 4 X 1.5 or similar but I'll have to wait little longer until my house move is sorted in next few weeks.

PS. If you fill it with plenty of hides and vines/ artificial foliage he should be ok. I personally would panel off until he reaches around the length of the viv (2.5 ft) then remove. Although corns aren't tempremental feeders, the safer they feel the better it'll be for Eugine!

Cool name for a cool snake BTW!

http://www.thereptilian.co.uk/care_sheets/bearded_dragon_care_sheet_pogona_vitticeps.htm

Link for bearded dragon care sheet. Its the same "group" of sites as thecornsnake.co.uk & theroyalpython.co.uk etc so you can trust its good. I've not used it (have no other reps) but if this site and royalsite is anything to go by.....

My snake is called LegLess! Named her 11 years ago when I was 13 but still think its pretty cool!
