Hi all i got my corn snake just before xmas and it has finally deicded to eat after 2 weeks stops me from worrying about when it going to feed.
Hopefully will be able to get some information from the forum |

Welcome to the forum
I dont know if you know but it is best to leave your snake for 7 days to get use to its new home. Only water changes 2-3 days and spot checks.
There is a good care sheet on the forum as well that covers all basics.

Hey and welcome to the forum, im fairly new here aswell and can tell you from first hand experience that this is a great forum with lots of very helpful members waiting to share their expertese and years of expereince.
The forum is a great place for information but as already stated there is also a great care sheet which can be found on the main page.

Welcome to the forum Craig! This is a great forum with lots of experienced owners happy to give their advice and support. You also get lots of fun and friendship. I am not sure how much information you already know about corns snake keeping, so sorry if I am repeating information you already know...but it is better heard twice than not at all.

As Rich mntioned you should not have handled or fed your snake for a week. This is The one-week rule...no handling or feeding for the first week to allow your snake to get over the stress of the move and for it to get used to the new smells and its new surroundings. This means just putting your hand in to change the water daily and straighten the substrate, which means the snake is getting used to your smell and not being threatened by you. You are rarely advised this in a lot of pet shops  but it is an important way of getting your snake to de-stress and feel safe with you. Obviously you werent told this, and I am pleased your corn has eaten, but it would be good to leave your corn for a week now before you feed/handle it again. It is a hard week, very frustrating, but worth it for the snake's sake.
Unfortunately with many pet shops you cannot trust what they are telling you  . Double check anything you have been told with us on here. Remember that no question is regarded as a silly question  .....it is much better asked and answered, you will probably find others who want the info too! As SexyChef suggested, first place to look is in the top right hand corner of the screen where there is a search button...type in what you are worried about and see if you can find an answer, if not then dont hesitate to ask!
When you got your snake I hope you got as much info about it as possible....shedding history, feeding history etc. Start your own 'Snake Diary', noting things like weight, length, feeding dates and what you feed, shedding dates, health problems. I know it seems a bit over the top but it is actually really helpful keeping track of your snake's health - I even note when Kellog and Silvesta poo  !!

Ain't that the truth, when I got my Leopard Gecko I totalled up the price to be about £169, when I went to actually pay for her I was abit naive and ended up paying £350. I didn't need some of the equipment they said I needed, some of the advice was questionable, but at the time I thought, well..... these guys are the experts. So all I can say is..... do your research, go on loads of forurms (mainly this one, lol) and get info from real people with real experience with nothing to gain apart from friendship and when you go to buy complete setups stick to your guns. |
