Is it true that snakes don't have ears and they hear through vibrations? I've haven't ever heard that before, does that mean there's no point in speaking to them? |

They do indeed feel vibrations but the debate is on going whether they hear air borne vibe's.
Although snakes dodgy behvaiour has been proved to be linked to loud noises (i.e Music) affecting the snake through prolonged times and the snake goes off food etc etc.
clever, wierd, interesting little things. |

Even if they could hear you, what would be the point in talking to them? |

ok thanks! so is it bad to play music/watch tv if your snake is in the same room, even if it's not generally loud? and lots of animals like it when you talk to them even if they can't understand they can pick up on tone of voice like dogs and guinea pigs and stuff, it's not the case for snakes though obviously. I read that p****ltounge (language of snakes) is actually real and is based on vibrations and you can learn it but it's very complicated. You can inherit the skill but there haven't been any documented cases. If you say "psa:!" it means stop. Anyway i'm not saying i believe it, i just read it on wikipedia |

For little amounts of time, it will be fine. I generally have TV or xbox on low volume, also music and i usually wear headphones.
I try to keep as far away from snake as poss. Generally they come out to watch TV though. |

Damn, my snake is in the living room+we have the tv on for about 4 or 5 hours every evening! Think may have to think about a move to another room when i upgrade his viv :( Altho i really wanted him in a room where he'd always been seen :( |

nismo lives in the lounge with the surrond sound blaring.
he's out after dark wether its quiet or not and eats happily whenever i feed him.
maybe he's just a really chilled out snake?
i would live normally and keep a close eye on him - if he seems happy then don't worry |

As long as the bass isn't bouncing off you walls. I'm currently playing Biffy Clyro - Know your quarry which isn't a loud shouty song, and I'm sat paralell to Blit'z viv. it's on 26/100 (wierd toshiba volume settings) atm.
I hope by 'blaring' it isn't stupidly loud? |

snakes DO have an inner ear structure but they lack an external ear..... |

So no radar dishes, as if it were, to get the sound waves into the inner ear.

true hun lol there's nothing to channel sound waves into the inner ear structures but they're still present and working just the sounds would be muffled, whereas other vibrations would be felt through their whole body...... |

I dont care what anyone says...I talk to my snakes all the time (but then I am crazy!). I find it theraputic and soothing and talk to them just as I would my dog...who I know can hear me but doesnt understand me. Its more for my sake than theirs.
Am always aware of volume of tv and music, but do still have it on...and both snakes vivs are in the lounge so they get to 'hear' it. Have banned my son from playing his saxaphone in there (more for my sake than theirs!)
