My young corn had her first shed with me this morning, she had shed in the night, found it when i woke up.
The eye caps had come off and it was in one piece, except for about 2cm at the tip of the tail.
I let her crawl through some damp kitchen roll and it came off, but when i inspected the small piece in the kitchen roll - it didnt come to a point. Should it do?
If so there is about 1mm left on the end of her tail, but i couldnt see it on there.
That is fantastic news about Stella shedding....I am just sorry you missed seeing it. Well done for checking for the eye caps and tail tip. You did the right thing running her through the damp kitchen roll to remove what was left. It may be that the tip has come off but you just havent seen it...it has seperated from the main tail tip and is so small it could be easily missed. I would think that to be on the safe side it would be worth doing the damp kitchen roll thing a couple more times, just to reassure yourself that it has gone.
If the tail retains shed it can cause it to do so again the next shed and the build up can cause a problem with the blood flow to the tip - worst case scenario being that the tip dies and drops off.
I am sure Stella is fine, but do the extra work to put your mind at rest.
The more experienced amongst us will be able to tell you more.
