Hi Guys, so The heat mat works, and themostate works, but the crappy themometres don't seem to move. Is this because the heat mats are heating the ground of viv and not area??? and should I get a lamp just in case to cold in the viv?
if you could answer these questions that would be great. I also am not sure how to put up a lamp will this be simple?? |

You should put a lovly big branch for him to climb on and also if you get a light set up in their make sure it has a cage (sorry if you already know but we dont want him to die now :) )
http://www.ponderosa-birds.co.uk/Results.cfm?secondary=57 For the lights the bottom one is a good example but obiosly youll need a better cage around it. He will just be alright with the heat mats but it is quite a big viv so its up to you. Also dont get fluresent light bulbs as the flicker at a rate that isnt noticble to us . You can attach a light to the roof with some screws and then make a hole in the back so that the wire can fit out. |

A Dial Thermometer is poo and not accurate, you should get an Digital Thermometer which gives you a direct reading of the temps , you could pick one up for less then £6.

Your heatmatt looks way to small for that big viv i think you should get a (17" X 11") for that size viv , You could pick one of these up for about £11 from ebay with free P&P. |

Looking good.
You say its eating bits of pinkies, how big is it? a hatchie would be WAYY too freaked out in there, too big. Unless you pack it out so tight... But you could lose him in there!
* You may want another vent in the warm end
No need to apologise mate, we all make mistakes. glad your'e doing your homework! Try getting 2 of these; http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Digital-LCD-Fish-Aquarium-Water-Terrarium-Thermometer_W0QQitemZ160374713520QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Pet_Supplies_Fish?hash=item255713ecb0
probes should be on the surface where your snakes likely to be. maybe a few more plants and a treated wooden stick for him to shed against and you will be fine!
Nice looking viv
edit:/ * Just saw Ash had covered the heatmat! |

Hi there, you do not need a heat lamp as snakes take there heat from there belly better off just getting a bigger heat mat though a light does heat up the viv it doesnt really benefit the snakes also it increases your elecricity bill. I had a heat lamp in my viv for over a year then discoverd i didnt need it , also if you do use a lamp you need to put a cover over it so the snake dosnt burn itself as it will be attracted to it. Also my themometer was rubbish till i got a digital one and sat it inside the viv with the prob ontop of the substrate it works great now. |

She had a proper fuzzy today and didn't bring it up, she'll be home with me on Monday Thanks guys.... Oh one more question do you need seperate thmostates for each appliance or can i put an adapter on the stat and plug in like 2 appliances below the wattage the stat can take... does any one else do this??? Put the stat probe on the substrate...cool!!! I've had it in the air the whole time. |

I wouldn't use a mat and a light.. it could get tooo hot.
One or the other. If you use a mat, use a matstat. on/off ones are fine.
or a dimmer stat for a light.
Don't worry about all the q's mate. |
