Hello all!

Some of you on 'the king snake forum' might know who we are (we have Jake, the Cali king who at the minute is on the loose round the house somewhere!)

But we have a new addition to the family, a beautiful male Amel Cornsnake

So we have signed up to this site aswell as the king snake one, to gather as much information about looking after our new little one, who is currently nameless!!!!

Well many greetings to you all and hope you are all ok!

Jo and Danny

Hiya and welcome to the the forum
The husbandry isn't a great deal different than a king, so you have most of the info you need really.
But if not, then have a looky at the caresheet: http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/corn_snake_care_sheet.htm

And the snake names thread, Which I'm still yet to edit: http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6673

Welcome to the best and only forum Jo-and-Danny. Just so you know how good THIS forum is you will find that it is a great place with lots of experienced owners happy to give their advice and support. You also gets lots of fun and friendship as a bonus, which is so hard to find on any other forums. Not sure how much corn snake care differs from king snake care so will treat you as a new owner and I would advise the following:

1. I hope you followed the one-week settle in period, meaning when you got your snake you left it for a week to get over the stress of moving to your house and let it settle into its new surroundings by leaving it without handling or feeding for a week. Of course you would know to put your hand in daily to change water and straighten substrate, so that way it gets used to your smell.

2. As already suggested by Kehhlyr make sure you read the care sheet on here (http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/corn_snake_care_sheet.htm), lots of information for new snake owners. Also read this topic on 'Your 1st Snake' http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4133

3. No question is regarded as a silly question on here.....it is much better asked and answered, you will probably find others who want the info too!

4. I know you know this but I hope you got as much info about your snake as possible....shedding history, feeding history etc. Start your own 'Snake Diary', noting things like weight, length, feeding dates and what you feed, shedding dates, health problems. I know it seems a bit over the top but it is actually really helpful keeping track of your snake's health - I even note when Kellog poos!!

5. Unwritten forum rule (which you probably know) - pics as soon as possible!

Hope I have welcomed you warmly enough to the right forum! And I will warn you that corn snakes are addictive.....and yes, the majority of us have stood up, said "hello my name is **** and I am addicted to corns........! And I am proud of it!" Once you have had a corn you wont go back - although, seriously for a moment, I do hope you find your king.

xxx

Thank you all for your warm welcome to this forum! Our newest arrival, now called 'david hisslehoff' (lol!) Is doing well and is very explorative. Im trying to get a clear photo of his eyes because he appears to hav a bit of black in the corners which we think could be mites as he is an Amel snake.

Oh I do hope it is not mites...have been there and treated that...not fun! Try running your snake through some damp kitchen roll and see if any black dots or red spots are rubbed onto it...it they appear then I am afraid your snake has mites.

I take it the black dots are mites and the red dots blood? I've seen mites on snakes before but never around the eyes, but i assume just like fleas on a dog they can go anywhere! i will get sum damp kitchen/toilet roll and see what i can do
