| I am going to put a branch in rockys viv, my plan is to boil the branch and then sand it down smooth, is there anything else I need to consider before doing this. |

i know you can let them dry out and then put them in the oven at a really high temp for a few hours and that works just as well as boiling them..  |

| same as hannah dry out in the oven but i did mine on a low heat for about 3 hours it was too hot to handle when it came out the oven i them got a blow torch to the sanded wood to give it some colour without turning it to ash....lol |

Personally i do not think boiling is the best way to go, yes it would kill anything on the branch, but unless it is then baked to dry it there is a high chance of mold.
As Hannah says, baking in the oven kills everything just as well as boiling and it also has the added benefit of not creating a mold issue.
As for sanding it smooth, unless it is really sharp wouldn't the roughness help the snake during shedding? |

| We use natural branches in our viv. Clean them thoroughly and then bake in oven for about an hour at 160oc, this should ensure all parasites and eggs are killed. My OH sanded one for him and he had trouble getting a grip on it to climb so didnt use it. He seems to like the ones that are rough. xxx |

| I found a root it was the ideal shape for climbing, i popped it in the oven for 3hrs on 160. |
