at that age you should probably be aiming for about 5-10mins, 4-5 times a week and then as they get bigger up it slightly |

I reckon you'd be okay with 10 minutes a day. Just don't handle for 24 hours after feeding. My snake doesn't like to be handled when in blue (just about to shed). I agree with Hannah, when it gets older you can handle more. |

I agree with Hannah - 5 to 10 mins a day except for 48 hrs after feeding. The more you handle them and the sooner you start after their settling in period, the quicker they'll get used to you and the fitter they'll be - handling is the best time for them to get some exercise! |

Leave for 48 hours after eating, 24 hours is to soon as the food wont be properly digested. |

Agree with what has been said above, but will repeat it so it is all clear!!
1. DONT handle for 48hrs after feeding. 2. Most snakes dont like being handled when they go into 'blue' before a shed, as they are virtually blind. I dont handle mine from seeing him go 'blue' til he sheds. 3. Handle for 5 to 10 minutes a day and slowly build up. Kellog is an adult and I only handle him for 30 mins at a time. You do need a lot of self control cos you lose track of time when you are enjoying handling them - so watch the clock. It doesnt help that Kellog never wants to go back into his viv so I get into a battle with myself along the lines of - I know he should really go back, but he doesnt want to, I must have self control, but I want to do what he wants, etc.... (ok, I talk to myself and to my snake - who doesnt!!)
Hope that helps. xxx |
