Whilst at the Donny show I saw a lot of snakes advertised with 'kinks' and it got me thinking (and my girlfriend wanting to buy all of them), are the snakes cheap because they are in poor health / have a short life expectancy or is it just becuase the kink is seen as undesirable?

i think its simply because its a defect and although the snake may be healthy in every other respect it may not be suitable for breeding.. some kinks are worse than others and more obvious but a lot you have to really look for.. luke was going to get a female blizzard but she had a kink and when we saw her on sunday at the show i could hardly notice it..the only thing obvious about her was that she had a super small tail..
i nearly bought a non feeder from sue but decided against it..i love the idea of a project so to speak but when i already have 4 now at my house plus gettin a python it just wouldnt work... plus iv got to feed aura later - will be her first feed since she had her first after-hatching shed so will be interesting to see if she feeds ok |

Kinks and spurs are a deformity found along the spine or ribs of a snake. They are caused by as number of factors - such as incubation mishaps, frantic flailing, physical injuries, and occasionally genetic inheritance. Some are apparent right out of the egg and others may form or develop in the months and years after hatching. The severity of the kink or spur can range from barely noticeable to detrimental. There is no cure for a kink or other structural deformity.
There is some controversy out there in regards to the morality of keeping and raising a kinked snake - some people believe all kinked snakes should be euthanized immediately while others believe in giving them a chance to flourish.
The above information was extracted from http://www.tandjscorns.com/kinks.htm
I thought it better to use there words than try and put it into my own lol |

As said before some kinks are worse than others... Often you will see them sold as "pet level only" as these kinks can effect breeding. Some kinks will get better in time, other will worsen. But a snake with a kink can live a perfectly normal life. |

kinked snakes shouldn't be used for breeding just in case the kink is down to a genetic defect which will potentially be passed on to their offspring, IMO there's so many good specimens in every possible morph available so why breed from 'bad' stock?
spurs are rarely seen on corns but i wouldn't consider them a defect as such, although they are more common on species such as royals |

kinks can occur in lizards too. this is sometimes genetic like in snake,s or the one my beardie has was from a piece of shed retaining growth in his tail until i took it off. |

The Kinks.........great band..........Also not uncommon are 2 headed snakes, happens a lot in the garter family. Can partly be traced to inbreeding but also happens in the wild to and with other species |
