Hi,
First post on here. Seems like a friendly forum and I've learned a lot so far reading the older posts.
I so want a corn snake (Narrowed down to Abbots Okeetee, Hypo or Sunkissed I think. Maybe Bloodred)
First question. How can I persuade my OH that she wants one too? Thing is I work on an Oil Rig for a fortnight at a time so it's gotta be as much her responsibility as mine.
Second question. Whats the deal with the 1.0.1 etc at the bottom of peoples sig's?

Take her to a rep shop and show her a little hatchling, they are very cute.
0.0.0 means:
Number of males. Number of females. Number of unsexed
So "1.2.4 Corn snake" means 1 male corn, 2 females, and 4 unsexed. |

hey and welcome
firstly persuading your mrs is down to you.. we may be good here but we arent that good haha..i didnt have to convince my oh - he wanted one and i did so we got them.. tell her they are super easy to look after once set up, they dont have to be walked, no hairs to hoover up, only fed once every 5-7 days and they dont make any noise 
the 1.0.1 ect stands for the number of males, females and unsexed snakes people have.. for example i have 2males and a female so mine is 2.1.0
hypos are pretty but i think sunkissed are hard to find along with bloodreds and a.okeetee's unless you know where to look but im sure someone else can help you out there

Was planning to get her into my local rep shop. I think there is only one in the area. East Coast Exotics in Aberdeen.
Hopefully she'll think they're cute too.

| I think the only way to persuade her is for her to see some and handle some. Might be better to start with an older snake rather than a hatchling because they are experienced feeders and shedders, which means she doesnt have to worry about anything. Make sure you get an info book on snake - showing feeds, sheds, weights, health etc. They are really easy to look after and once you have handled one they are addictive. Again she may be happier handling an older snake cos hatchlings are so small she might worry she would hurt it or drop it. The main thing is whether she is scared of snakes or not! To be honest it would be her snake rather than yours as it would be her dealing with it most of the time - so give her the choice of what morph to get. May not be what you want, but you can get what you want when you get your 2nd one!! xxx |

Kellog, I was thinking along those lines.
Let her choose and then get another once she's comfortable.
Is there any books that are regarded as "THE" bible when it comes to corns?
East Coast Exotics sell older proven breeders too. Never been in the shop.
I'm still offshore at present but I'll head in this time home and take the OH with me.
I hope they will let us handle them.

Out and out bribary is what I use with my Mrs. Whatever I spend on snakes she gets the equivalent. Just means that I have to be a little careful about how much the reps cost when I buy them  . |

Unfortunately I put my foot down when the OH wanted a chinchilla.
Chew skirting boards power cords etc. But gotta let them out daily.
And being the fairer sex she will always remember LOL.
I think I'm on a hiding to nothing.
Just had another look at East Coast Exotics web site and they do animal handling sessions.
I think if she got a hatchling in her mitts she might melt. Hope the little ****** doesn't bite though.
If it weren't for the infections / parasite issue I think my cat could keep up with the feeding of at least one adult snake. Mouse / vole every few days through the summer duely delivered to the bedroom whilst we're fast asleep. Then MEAOW at the top of his voice. I love heading out to the wheelie bin at dark o'clock with the casualties. LOL

Get the snake.
Suffer heroically through two weeks of complete silence ("I am not talking to you!") or two weeks of being treated as if you've just eaten the cat.
When it's time to go out to the rig, you say: "Honey, this snake will die if you don't take care of it." Fortunately, wives tend to succumb to this kind of pitch. You get back from the rig and find out you're not allowed anywhere near the snake because now it's considered hers ("I was the one who fed it, changed its water, looked after it!").
Worse comes to worse, can you take snakey out on the rig with you? |

A wee Corn snake wont manage a whole Chinchilla.
