Must say I fully agree. We brought our first cornsnake home only eight days ago, and are already looking to get another one! We're being sensible and will wait until both he and us are well into the routine before getting the next one, but I must say we're itchy and can't wait!
Additionally, we are experiencing a repeating pattern with friends, colleagues and family: first response is, "You brought home a WHAT?!?" Then, after they see the video, we get phone calls: "How is the snake?" |

Currently at 29 snakes, 9 lizards, 2 dogs and a cat - Addictive is an under statement!!! Maybe we should start a SA group. |

Tizzy you really HAVE lost count! your post says 29 snakes but your signature has 33 snakes in it (yes, I'm nitpicking )
In the short time we've had Shen I found out what a calming effect a snake can have on its human: twenty minutes of sitting quietly just watching him going about his business, did wonders for me on two nights when I needed to wind down so I could get some sleep. |

I know exactly what you mean. Am chronically ill, in pain and always exhausted. Getting Kellog has been so theraputic (stressful at times but worth it)! Would love more, but have to work on OH for that! xxx |

Sig needs updateing, sold one male, lost one hatchling (RIP scaley houdini) and sold a couple of hatchlings. I need to do a count me thinks That sounds so bad, i can assure you i do make sure they all get fed and watered properly!
Edit - There we go Sig is updated, not that it'll stay right for long knowing me |

That sounds so bad, i can assure you i do make sure they all get fed and watered properly! Well, that's more than I can say for my human children, lol! Somehow, miraculously, they are all strong and healthy even though they don't always eat their greens and think Pizza Express is a health food outlet
From your experience with newbies, do you think I'm realistic when I think we should be ready for a second snake in about 3 months? |

I'd say it really depends on what your attention span is like, if you think there is any chance your gonna get bored of them then wait, if you generally stick to things then once your happy with the care and requirments go for it!!!! |

Ok. My concern is elsewhere: we're both beginners here, don't know much about snakes but learning fast, and we haven't even been through first feed, first shed. Would it be responsible to get in a second snake before we feel we've mastered the necessary knowledge etc.? The snake really belongs to the Real Hawk but the responsibility is also mine. Besides, I now want my own snake
(The Real Hawk first came up with "can I have a cornsnake?" five years ago, so it's not a fad with him. I must admit the idea appealed to me since the beginning but I only got the snake once I concluded we could give him a good home for his entire life.) |

tbh honest, as tizzy says, if you wont get bored of them quickly then it is entirely up to you when you get a second snake. just make sure you know you will end up with 2 animals that could live well into their teens, maybe even 20 years old. |

I have had Kellog for nearly 5 months - and they havent exactly been stress free months! I really want to get another corn but feel I should wait. Not quite sure why cos I feel confident enough having dealt with fasting, feeding, shedding, mites. But I need to be sure and it shouldnt be a decision taken lightly - another pet, another reponsibility and cost, which also has something to do with why I better wait....its not exactly a cheap hobbie! Am sure I will get another one but in time. xxx |

Ok guys and thanks. There will certainly be a second snake joining us, but not in the next few weeks: I need to go abroad for about 10 days in September. So may have to wait until next spring since the season is nearly over (I'd rather buy another hatchling). You'll be the first to know anyway because I'd rather get the new one from someone here than from that shop. |
