its in a realy small tank atm till its bigger, and the heat mat they gae gave me is the sam size as the tank,,,

shud i put it just halfway onto the tank and leave the rest hanging off?

The heat mat should cover a third of the floor space, so just slide a bit of the mat underneath the tank. The heat mat should be plugged into a thermostat and you should have a thermometer to measure the temperature.

There should always be a hot and a cool end, I have my heat mat covering just over 1/3 of the tank.
Never ever put the mat under the full length of the tank.
Also I'm guessing you have a stat to control the temp of the vivarium right?

It should be fine, just make sure there is a gap between the mat and the surfaces its against. You will need a thermostat. I would reccomed a habistat mat stat. You will also need a digital thermomer that you can get cheap on ebay, just search aquarium thermometer.

Get a controlling thermostat as fast as possible.
You need to control the temperature inside the viv, in the summer you could be overheating your snakey.

im assuming, i take the white thing off, stick it were i want it to go, and leave it? *the 4 stumps that i stuck on each corner* stop it touching the tank directy

I personaly wouldnt bother sticking it to the tub. UI would use the 4 spacers and stick them on the bottom of the tub, then put that on the mat. This will put a bit of space between the hot, unstatted mat.

my matt has a blak side, and then the other side has a white thing i can peel of..

Should i leave the white stuff on, place on table, then just slide the matt under the tank?

keep him in the faun hes in at the moment..my new snake is going in a faun and will be in it for at least 6months i guess depending on how fast he grows.. im then going to get a wooden viv probs 2 1/2 foot that he can live in for a while and then maybe have to buy a new one..
a 12x12 wouldnt really do for him when hes fully grown but might do for him as a young snake..someone else may be able to help you a lil bit more than i can
