When I joined this forum it was perfect, as the moderators made sure the tone of the posts were family oriented. Sad to say, a couple have snuck through the net. I have Grandchildren who come on the forum, and there is a little one called Chloe who is just 11. Please dont bring this forum in line with others I have seen, I want everyone to enjoy it, and you can, just without the bad language. It would be a shame not to be able to take part anymore. Sorry for the moan, but it's something I feel very strongly about. Ally. (Grandma of 5) |

I agree with the family nature of the forums. The bike forum I belong to has a filter built in that seems to spot and **** inappropriate words. |

While we do the best we can, we cant see everything as the comunity of the forum is growing very quickly (which is a good thing). I cant talk on behalf of the other moderators and admins, but im very happy for people to either email me or PM me on the dark side if you think there is a problem.
Edit - spelling |

Sorry Ally
I know we (me and Lewy) haven't had much time on the forums lately, (too much d.i.y and holidays ) so not surprised some bad language might have slipt through. We don't condone it and would definitely tell people (and edit/delete their posts) if we saw it.
Just a note to everyone- please keep it clean. Ally is right we don't want to slip into being like the other forums.
There is a swear filter on here, but I might have to update it again. It's hard to think of all the swear words out there when you are doing these kind of things
If any one wants to email me any swear words they take offence too I'll make sure they are added |

An 11 year old is allowed to visit internet forums? Hmmm In the politest manner - I'm glad this forum is policed but you will find 80% of them (including ones linking from here) will have a lot of content an 11 year old should never see.
Swear filters are extremely rudimentary on internet forums, it can be easily bypassed by adding bbcoding/forum code (mods will understand what I mean) and so I wouldn't hold the admins or mods accountable to any inappropriate content your 11 year old may see. |

when you sign up for this site; to agree to the forums terms one of which "over the age of 13"
I have some stuff that 11 year old's shouldn't see, again, from ones being linked from here.
Not that I'm complaining, I completely understand it all but still isn't good for an eleven year old but then again, you gotta be at least 13 years of age to agree to that forum terms to use this service. |

Due to the COPPA laws in many countries: http://www.coppa.org/
Its the responsibility of the guardian not the internet to protect. |

No one is saying that, but you should not hold anyone accountable to what your 11 year old sees if they are unsupervised.
COPPA was introduced to protect the privacy of under 13s not to ban them from using the internet, it applies to forum owners and how they collect data NOT the actual children.
This is all based on opinion though, like if someone posted about keeping multiple corn snakes together my honest opinion would be against it but another maybe for it which is cool. Just as I wouldn't allow a 13 year old to access public forums, I know what kinda stuff I was looking at when I was 13 ! Where as there are plenty of arguments for allowing children the freedom of the internet. |

No one can watch their children 24/7.At the end of the day lewy and kaz have created these sites to be suitable for people of all ages and rely on the judgement of all members to keep it clean and friendly,a bit of common sense goes a long way.Theres plenty of other forums out there where you can say what you want in what ever manner and this is not one of them and that is what makes these sites so good. |

Ahh, I thought it meant you can't be younger than 13.
It still isn't an excuse for people to openly swear. But now wev'e all cleared it up, hopefully there will be less of it. I must say I witness only a couple of foul words mind.
we must be doing good |

She only came back on because I threatened her last night at York. She was scared of my wrath
It is officially true that under 13s shouldn't really sign up to the forum, but we do turn a blind eye as long as they are here to learn about corn snakes and their care.
Like Lee says it should be common sense for people to be aware that there are members on here that do not appreciate bad language, so we should all work together to keep it under control.
Me and Lewy have agreed to try and make our presence known a little more on the Cornsnake site in particular. We have been busy in our homelife recently and when we have been online it's usually to build and improve our newer sites (the amphibian and rainbow boa) or get ready for the forthcoming Reptilian site.
The Corn snake was our first 'baby' and we never expected it to get so big- especially how it is at the moment with so many new members coming along every day it's hard to keep up with the massive amount of posts. We are glad we are surrounded by a great team of mods and thank them for all the work they do at policing the site.
Kehhlyr- It's your responsibility to moderate me and Lewy. If you think we've not been strict enough make sure we know about it. |

To put matters straight...MY Grandchildren range in ages from 13 to 15. The little one concerned is the daughter of a forum memeber. FAO Lucifer, Hillzi and Brookestar..Whilst I appreciate your comments, I do understand the pro's and con's of the internet. I work everyday with it, dealing with stats for health/govt etc. and there is nothing 'La di Dah' about not wishing to read foul language, irrespective of your age! Please don't make this an issue between the forum members, I was merely seeking to stop the 'rot' before it started. I also appreciate all the work the Moderators do, and have not called into question, either their responsibilty or the policing of this site. Every parent/guardian should monitor their own children's usage of this, and other websites. I also know that links from this site may not be suitable, but if they aren't suitable, would it take too much time to put a warning on it? Well, that's my bit, for what it's worth. But am I sorry that I brought it up? NO! |
