I misunderstood the rule I stated; but then again, younger children are going to get on here.
I will be making an effort to watch my mouth. |

Now I know I belong to a great forum. I said my piece, it stirred things up. We had a debate, and guess what? Everyone rallied! Thanks for listening too, and acting on my moan...no need to stray to another forum, Thank Goodness for that. Sincerely, Ally. |

Firstly, welcome back GP - glad you have had a break, you needed one and I hope you have come back refreshed and ready to keep us all in line! Secondly, I am a parent, my son (12) isnt a member of the forum but does look through it (usually to try and convince me to buy more snakes!). I know it is my responsibility as his parent what he sees, but I also accept I cant monitor him 24/7. Thirdly, as a forum member I hope that I type as I speak and, especially when I know many others may read what I have put, I am careful what I say and how I say it. (That is not to say I havent used and heard enough bad language to turn the air blue!) I think we are all agreed that the moderators do a fantastic job considering the enormity of the job, and I think it is down to us forum members to take responsibility to support them as much as we can and make their job as easy as we can. Lecture over!! xxxx |

my personal opinion on PMSL is that if the children know what it means they obviously understand it and may use it themselves. i would like to know what mods think but i see it as if they know what it means then they obviously use it themselves if they dont they dont need to know |

I totally agree with you. If we knew about half of the words that our kids use in the playground then we would probably have a fit. My own personal opinion is that LMFAO, PMSL, etc aren't offensive because the member that types them is showing consideration to others by not posting the full sentence. I personally just read the posts and consider whether I would want my child reading them. That's my baseline.
When you consider some of the things that are being said by the genie in Disney's Aladdin and Mushu the dragon in Disney's Mulan (which were aimed way over the top of the kids' heads but we, as adults, were wetting ourselves) abbreviations like PMSL are pretty tame really . |

I don't normally edit out the abbreviations, just because I don't always know what they mean myself anyway
I think it is a little different than actual un-edited bad language, but I think Kellogg made a good point about forum users needing to be responsible for their own posts too.
Usually -If you think that what you are writing might be a little inappropriate then you shouldn't really be posting it - just in case someone does take offence. |
