Yeah, it is an interesting forum for a general read and occasional laugh, but it has never struck me as a consistently newby friendly place to post. Sometimes you see the nice, helpful replies and sometimes you see the full on flaming for no apparent reason.
Cinnamon and Amber are great, thanks. It is two days since they have fed and both have been wanting to come out tonight, they just slide straight out onto my hand when i open the viv. Amber is still sat near the glass wanting to come out to me, she was out 20 minutes before and seemed somewhat miffed when i tried to put her back, she kept turning around and going straight back up my arm. The little softy! |

Kellog doesnt seem to be nocturnal at all. He used to come out occasionally but since his 'mite incident' he is staying pretty hidebound. When I do get him out during the day it is always difficult to get him back, you aim to try and slide him in and he turns his head so it slides above the viv or onto the cupboard next to the viv! I do try and keep his handling to a set time, 30 min to 45 min, but that takes self-control on my part as I could happily keep him out longer and when he then doesnt want to go back it is so tempting to give in and leave him out longer! Why you up so late? xxx |

My two are very much nocturnal little snakes, they seem to start their nightly explorations at about 8pm, before that i rarely see them.
Yeah, sliding them back into the viv is always an issue, they also try and put their head anywhere other than in their viv so i can see it being a nightmare when they are older. I also try and limit their handling, currently at about 15 minutes due to them only being about 5 weeks old.
Do you think Kellog will get back to his old self given enough time?
And as for why i am awake still... i really don't sleep very well (haven't for many years), plus i have been spending ages reading this forum and a couple other snake forums so i have been losing track of time.
How about you? |

I am hoping given time and peace and quiet that Kellog will recover. He is beginning to poke his head out during the day occasionally, keeping an eye on whats going on, and he is still feeding although with his last feed had to dangle just outside hide and he struck from inside and dragged mouse in. He was out on Wed, which was lovely to see, but have since discovered he pooed in the corner of the viv. I am hoping he didnt just come out to do that. Its hard cos it means I am not handling him as we have a rule that we dont disturb him when he is in his hide - it is his safe place. Means I have to wait til he comes out before I can handle him. Just have to be patient. I am up a lot in the night as I am chronically ill and in a lot of pain, which makes it hard to sleep and wakes me when I do sleep. I find getting up and watching tv/going on laptop helps break the cycle. Usually get a maximum of about 4 hours broken sleep a night. It is easy to lose track of time when you are on here, isnt it....my OH has to throw me off regularly because I shouldnt overdo it as being on laptop uses up mental energy. But he cant stop me in the middle of the night when he is asleep!! xxx |
