I have a 36" x 15" viv, is a 17" x 11" mat too big?
It wont go in sideways to when it take up nearly half the viv lengthways so its like this:
--------------------------- | | Floor | MAT | ============= __________________________|
ascii art at its finest
If not, do you reckon a reasonable reptile shop would take the bigger one off me (still packaged) and trade it in for a smaller (cheaper) one?

I have a 36" x 15" and a 17" x 11" Habistat Heat Mat.
The mat is actually a little over 1/3rd of the floorspace of the viv!
Mat - 17x11 = 187in² Viv - 36x15 = 540in²
187/540 = 0.346
Just to clarify

Heres mine:
Viv "Small Perfecto"; 16" x 8" = 128"²
Mat (Area in viv it covers) "Komodo heat strip" 8" x 6" = 48"²
So cool end space for mine is 80"². Warm end; obviously; 48"²
and 128/3 is 46.6r
so yeah, get the idea. |

lee: I don't have one yet, fingers crossed for Saturday though
I know that babies need smaller vivs, but does anyone know why? What would a hatchling do in the wild? find a small corner and live in that?
I'm planning on putting a partition in somehow, I have some spare wood |

Hi All
Apologies if this is a silly question, but I'm just a newbie still researching stuff.
I'm looking to buy the "Small Perfecto" but I can't figure out how to heat it. The smallest heat strip I have seen advertised is 17" x 6" 10 watt. Hillzi this is twice the size of your one. Can you seperate it into 2 pieces somehow or do you just have half of it sticking out from under the tank. If it does stick out, does it affect the thermostat at all?
Thanks |

Hiya snuffy, and welcome to the forum.
Most people have theirs hanging out from under the viv. So long as probe for stat is on the part that's under the viv, it'll keep the temps fine.
Also, head over to the intros section and introduce yourself. Research can only mean happier snakes, so we have no questions that could be classed as 'silly'. |
