Wheels has decided that the bestest place to be is inside a statue - which was not supposed to be a hide! I knew it had holes in the bottom, but thought that by placing it flat on the floor of the viv it would be okay......obviously I was wrong. Lesson learnt

He is not stuck. He will pop his head out and say hello, then go back. There is a possibility he is getting ready to shed. He may well come out and race round the viv when we are all in bed. However, he has - as far as we have seen - been in this hide for three or four days now.

The holes are big enough for him to fit through, so I am not concerned about that. As soon as he is out, I will remove the statue and either not put it back or address the issue by (a)blocking the holes or (b)converting it into a hide for him!

Now for the question: Do I need to worry?

OH thinks we should break/cut the statue and get him out. I'd rather leave it (partly because I like the statue, but mostly because I do not want to scare/hurt Wheels especially if he is coming into shed).

Opinions/advice/laughing out loud at my naivety welcome!

They do hide away a lot of the time, this is normal, as you said, could be due a shed, as long as you are sure there are not holes small enough to be stuck in, there is nothing wrong with putting ornaments in, most snakes love them better than reptile hides.
If you wanted, you could try to lure him out with a mouse, leave it as far away from statue as possible on a bit of kitchen roll so wont injest aspen

He's not getting stuck in either hole yet, so I will just out wait him!

Thanks for the reply.

He popped his head out today when I had a check, came out far enough to have a good lick/smell of my arm, continued up my arm then (and I'm sure I heard a giggle !) drew back into the statue again.

I'm happy now that he's comfortable enough with me and I haven't offended him! He'll come to me when his next poo needs an airing

Good news! Wheels left his safe-statue for a drink last night. Unfortunately for him, I noticed and managed to remove the statue from the viv before he got back to it.

He is now happily curled around the top of an eggbox and seems quite content.

He ate last night too, so he's not hungry, thirsty, or causing me extra stress.......wonder what he'll come up with next time.

Stanlee's "new hide" is under a face cloth lol
I put it in her tub to take her to pet shop, so she would be comfy and she loves it. She's in " blue " at the minute and has been under it since Wednesday! Keep checking on her and she's fine. I was worried incase she couldn't breathe under it ( new snake mum lol) but figured if they burrow then she would be ok. Any of the hides I've put in her cool end , she hasn't liked. She lyes behide them! She does use her bark hide up in the warm end so was thinking I'd be better getting the same kind for cool end.
I'd have the holes blocked up just incase he gets stuck. I like the skulls etc but the holes put me off just incase she got stuck some day. I find now that I'm a snake mom , every time I'm out shopping I'm scouring the items for " hide" ideas lol
Hope he doesn't fall out with u over it lol

If they refuse to leave a hide like that i find that you only need to get a finger to them - mine will tolerate 5 minutes of being stroked/prodded and then decide to leave the hide. I think of it as gentle persuasion lol
