Wow lol. Long time since I've been on here... I do have a quick question though...

I have bought perlite as an incubator medium as I have read it is a lot better than vermiculite, the question is - Can I use this as a laying medium too? I remember the mess from vermiculite...

If I can then great! My female won't come out of her box "gold-plated" this year lol.

Hiya, I have been recommended to use Hatchrite by my local reptile centre and I trust them wholeheartedly. It is ready to use and has the correct substrate humidity for incubation so there's no need to add any water. I got a 2L bag for £6.80.

Hope this helps

Hiya, I already have the perlite though and I can't afford anything else at the minute. I was recommended perlite at the last minute :)

I used a mix of vermiculite with a layer of sphagnum moss on top, got a 100% hatch rate which I was ecstatic about for a first time go. Why don't you give Sakana the choice, give her a box with some moss and a box with some perlite, see which she chooses. Or offer her the perlite first and see if she starts nesting in it? When I gave Luna vermicuite to lay in she showed very little interest in it, but when i put moss in she immediately started diving in it, moving it about and making it just right.

I gave her a box of Perlite about 30 mins a go and she dove straight in and started curling up... I'm not entirely sure if she's actually gravid at the minute but she is in shed so the humidity will help her and she did refuse her food on Saturday.

I use sphagnum moss for lay box and incubating. It works really well and doesn't end up stuck all over my snake

She hasn't left her perlite box since I put it in for her Here she is curled up in it and I'd like opinions on her gravid status... Yay or nay? I'm just confused. Last year she took 4.5-5 weeks to lock, lay and start recovering. It's now been 5-6(she locked on two different weeks) just to get to shedding stage. Last year I could clearly see and feel her eggs, this year nothing but she does look a little rounded on the back end, right? Or am I seeing things? She still hasn't shed but she has cleared up.
