I got back yesterday having been away since friday morning to find Laika's viv door open by about an inch. I think this happened because i put a mouse in her tank early in the morning before i left, and i assume i wasnt fully awake and i didnt close it properly. I noticed when i got back at around 10 yesterday night.
I am distraught, as you can imagine, and very frightened for her (even though shes probably loving her new freedom and not scared but still). i have searched my bedroom and cant find her, but its the warmest place in the house and the most likely place for her to be.
ive searched the rest of the house but with no luck, i cant dust with flour because its carpeted so it wont work. ive put a heatmat out and am defrosting a mouse.
shes a two year old corn snake but is so little she could be anywhere by now :'( is there anything else i can do or should i wait til it is dark? |

I feel your pain, our king is still MIA. Follow the tips in the thread, there's some good methods in there (although none have worked for me yet :/)

Hope you find her soon. One thing I can say is even if you look at something and think nope she won't be in there look anyway! Last year one of our corns got out at work, I turned the entire animal unit upside down looking for him, bottle traps with fluff in, flour every where no sign of him. We'd just about given up hope of finding him when he popped his head out of a gap in the door frame no more than 2ft from his viv! |

I really hope you find her soon, the idea of having an escapee is my worst nightmare and I'm not sure what I would do, so my fingers are crossed for your success |

I'm so sorry that Laika is missing . I can't imagine how you must be feeling. I know it's no real consolation but you'll have read the different stories in the Finding a lost snake thread, that SilverWings linked you to, of how long some snakes have been missing and turned up fine.
I think the best tip I've heard is to create a 'safe place' for her. Put her favourite hide on a statted heatmat, with cushions or something like that over the hide to make it more inviting, and with a bowl of water next to the heatmat. Put all of it in the corner of the room you think she's in, behind furniture or somewhere hidden away. The main things are not to give up hope, make sure you've got water down because she can go a long time without food but not water and keep looking where you've looked before because she's probably moving from one place to another.
Please let us know WHEN you find her.
Xxx
