Hello all, firstly I have to say a big thanks for all the great advice I have picked up from the forum so far it's been really helpful!
I picked up Dennis around just over a week ago an so far things have been going to plan! I left him to adjust for seven days before feeding which went brilliantly (I believe he is quite a few months old as he is on small furries already), left him for two days (during which time he shed a complete skin, so I happy with viv conditions), and last night a first slightly chaotic start to handling went well with him calming down after a few minutes... Brilliant I thought!
Tonight I was in high spirits and started gently to remove a couple of things from the viv so they wouldn't get in the way , and gently fluffed the aspen to spread scent before attempting to pick him up... Now although I didn't get bitten I was repeatedly struck at,even though I left it quite a few minutes for him to calm down and realise I wasn't a threat, but it didn't help and I decidedto leave him for now, so as not to completely freak him out.
Any advice on where I am going wrong would be really appreciated!

cheers

Jon

Hello and welcome.
Don't worry about it, it can be quite normal. Did you wake him from a sleep? When you go in to pick him up just open up the viv and pick him up straight away with confidence. Sometimes if they are in their hide they might not want to come out for a handling session so maybe leave him to a bit later or the next day. Just keep trying (but not too much) and I am sure he will be fine with you.

Thanks so much for thee replies everyone, I think Donnie you may have been right and it was most likely too soon after he had woken up.... just to give you an update, I left him until he started to move around his viv a few hours later. This time things were again a bit chaotic to start with but after a minute or so he did calm down a lot and we just sat for a few more minutes nice and quiet... really pleased!!! He was a little adgitated when I put him back and I got one more strike into the bargain, but compared to earlier it was a massive improvement and he had probably had enough by then.. I realise its going to be long process for both of us, but feigning confidence worked a treat ;-)

Thanks again everyone, i'm sure this wont be the last you hear from me! And yes I will post a pic as soon as I can!
