2 of my main adults are in 3' vivs and another 3'6. I certainly wouldn't want them in anything smaller. They don't need to be in anything bigger.

So even if your snake gets up to 4 and half feet a 3 ft is big enough ? Just for future reference as I'll get a snake the size of a worm it'll be a while before I need one :-)

I've got a 5'3" snake in a 3' x 1'6" viv and a 4'8" snake in a 3' x 1'3" viv. Don't ask me why they're such odd depths, I don't have a clue ! But they don't need any bigger. I know that as they're growing the 'rule' is that once the snake equals the length plus width of its enclosure it needs a new one, but once they're audits these sizes are sufficient.

Not adults yet as mine are CB12 August and Dec so still growing. Corno is 4 to 4.5 feet long and in a 4ft viv. She's still growing like a weed, and while mostly tends to curl up in a hide or on her Trixie tables, come evening (and all the time during breeding season!) she uses every inch of her viv. Ember has always been smaller and is still in a 3ft at the moment - but if she ever gets as big as Corno then she'll go into a 4ft as well. It depends on you and your snake - there's certainly nothing wrong with having a bigger viv if you've got the space, just as long as there is plenty of shelter in there so the snake feels secure.

Boris is in a 5ft viv I got from swell back in August. I decided to get the biggest I could afford and started off putting his faun in the viv with the lid of the faun off and letting him explore in his own time- it took just 2 days before he was out and about, tunneling and climbing up the big branch. He has lots of hides, and cover in the form of ivory garlands I got from Dunelm. He's currently climbing the branch again as I write this!

I know he probably wont need such a big viv, ever, unless he turns into the worlds biggest corn but I felt it was right for us, he was just under a year old when I moved him into his big boy viv.

This has been an interesting discussion, I hadn't realised how many people use 4' vivs. It's great that you are thinking ahead like this Luna . Wish more people were like you!

Kellog - Well I use a 4' viv, because when you've only got one snake, you may as well spoil it!
