Just thought I'd share..

I gave Monster his first Rat a few days ago..

He's now too big for regular mice and the shop didn't have any jumbos. So I bought (frozen) rat pups instead.

Monster has always been a great feeder, he ate for me the day he came home and has only refused once in 2x years (and he was so blue at the time). Usually he'll come to the top of his tank, strike and eat.

Not this time though!

He took 3x wild shots at the first pup before he snagged it and ate and the second he struck at twice then pinned it down with a coil and went wildly searching for another one before he settled down to eat it!

I've never seen such over the top enthusiasm from him before, it was quite the show..

It seems to be something different about rats, must be the smell, they do prefer them but can get fussy after and not want mice again.

I can't say I'd mind that over much.. Monster is turning into a big boy and will be eating rats for most of his life..

I might try a rat with mine, I always wanted to give them a change from mice. Would be interesting to see, how Bazil would react, she's normally really mental, anyway. I can't imagine her striking more, then she does now, so should be interesting :-)

My 5 year old will always have rats I suppose, mice are not big enough. He does have a chick now every few feeds as rats are fattening and he loves them too, always seems the have an extra long drink afterwards maybe it's the feathers. Chicks are so cheap as well at around 8-10 pence each.
