So, now that I¡¦m allowed my crestie I¡¦ve made a list of things to buy. (Won¡¦t be getting him or her for a couple of months/till we find the right one for us, but I LOVE lists and like to be prepared!!) I¡¦ll be buying a few things a month, depending on what money allows, till I have the full set up ready then can start the hunt for a crestie!

Does this sound ok? Please let me know if I am missing anything or if anything is wrong, I have a few questions at the bottom also.

Terrarium 45x45x60
Hygrometer/temperature gauge
Heatmat
Thermostat
Eco earth substrate ¡V adult (kitchen roll if young)
Bendy tree thing
Branches
Vines
Leafy silk plants
Trailing plant
Food bowl
Spray bottle for misting
Loo roll tubes for hidey places
Oh, and food obviously!

Questions:

I was told by the rep shop I use that a young one would be ok in this size terrarium as long as it was kitted out with lots of hiding places etc ¡V what do you guys think, better to get a smaller one as well?

I seen this on the Swell website, a heatmat with a stat built in ¡V never heard of this ¡V any good, or best just sticking with getting these separate? Link: http://www.reptiles.swelluk.com/reptile-supplies/reptile-heating-equipment-414/heat-mats-450/swell-pro-heat-mats-322315.html

I know that most cresties get water from the droplets on the plants ¡V should I get a water bowl also?

I¡¦d feed on Repashy, as this seems to be very popular, and a ¡¥complete¡¦ food I have read? True?

Last one! UVB lighting ¡V LOTS of conflicting info on this one, opinions? I think I¡¦d rather get it, but your thoughts would be great [ƒº]

Okaydoke that¡¦s all, promise I will shut up and not mention cresties again........until I have one haha!

Thanks guys.

Save your milk lids for food, some drink from water bowls, Fudge does. loo rolls might go soggy from spraying?
I can recomend level up reptiles for feeding ledges or just ledges
I think a baby would be fine with plenty cover, might be hard to find though!
I dont have the uv lighting, and imo Fudge is very happy and healthy
I only have used Repashy, so cant comment on other brands, Fudge was fussy on the banana flavour, but loved the original, now stopped eating her roaches since getting the mango flavour (she LOVED her roaches!)
Oh, and a welcome sign, blame MJPETERS for that one
And this is the most important thing, not on your list, but you already have it! Lots of love to give

I agree with scottishbluebird. The only other thing I would add is that mine have no artificial heat. They live in my kitchen next to my Rayburn and don't need any extra heating. Even on the coldest winter night they are snug as bugs. If you have a warm house it might be worth dropping the heat and thermostat, a very big saving. Mine do very well on Raphashy but sometimes I do give them crickets and locusts....they love hunting and are awesome to watch catching their meal!

Ah soggy loo rolls never thought about that one! Ledges sound good, i'll check that out. A welcome sign haha!

Ahh, well at the moment no heat would probably be fine, however it gets pretty damn cold in Scotland in the winter, so i think i'd have one as a standby in case it got really bad!

My staple diet for them would be Repashy and fruit they are allowed as a treat. But been thinking more about the bugs, think they would get them as a treat too. It would be great to watch them hunting the bugs!

Obviously i still need to look up some more info re feeding times, how often, what they can/can't have etc, but i have plenty time as i'll be ordering the terrarium and a few things off my list next month, then in August get rest very excited!

Thanks for the tips guys!

Lucky you, bet you can't wait I'd love a crestie, but OH put his foot down on having anything that eats live beasties (he has a real insect phobia lol). Can they be fed Repashy all the time, or need occasional live food to stay healthy?

I really can't! I thought it would take weeeeks to persuade him, but when i showed him them and explained what care they need etc he came round to the idea pretty quickly!

I've been reading up about them and they can live solely (and healthily) on Repashy. I'm a weeee bit freaked out by bugs, but i'll get them as a treat. But it's not needed

Ooh that sounds good. Maybe I can talk him round with the no beasties talk I was caught reading up on the European Praying Mantis, and he nearly freaked lol.

I know you said you dont like the bugs, but would get some as a treat, roach colony only sell 30 as the lowest amount, if you wanted i could send you a smaller amount if you wanted, it would show you they are so simple to look after and are really not that bad,(i was freaked at the start too, but they dont bother me at all, some are now adults!)
also if your crestie didnt like them, you wouldnt have loads left over, some dont like bugs when young, but love them when bigger

I see!

That's really kind of you SBB! I will definately keep this in mind, it would be good to have a smaller amount to see how i get on with them. Thank you so much for the offer!

I still have heating in mine and keep them at 25 degrees. I use the exo canopies with 25w bulbs and 5% uv and have started heat mats on all if them. All of mine actively seek out the uv. A baby should be fine in that size but be aware it can take over 3 months for them to properly settle and start to eat properly. I use kitchen roll in my hatchies and adult as its easier to monitor. Just have lots of hiding places but with enough room to jump around x

Also I offer 3 clarks flavours and two repashy flavour to add a mix and so if I run out I know they will eat one of the others. I give live occasionally. Two of mine won't touch live. One would live on live if I let her lol make sure you guy load any bugs you feed. I also offer fruit once a week and give them a dan of manuka honey once every two weeks and pumpkin once a month as it works as a wormer :)

thanks for the extra info! yeah it'll take a lot of patience luckily I have that. with animals I do anyway haha! different flavours is a good idea. been looking up natural set ups, need to decide which I think is best now.
