Finally we have got pics of our hubby's newest acquisition, Artemis! All we know is she is a carpet python, and when we asked if she was a coastal the shop said yes (we told them we didn't want a coastal, so it's not because they were just trying to get a sale or anything), but to be honest they didn't really know as she was 'preloved' so we've just got to wait to see how big she ends up!! If anyone out there does recognise anything about her markings which gives her morph away please let me know. I just love the little face on the top of her head! (Not so keen on the mites we discovered on her today after letting her settle in for a week, but we've dealt with them before so we can do it again and she is quarantined well away from the other snakes of course.) Apparently she is a CB11, but no idea which month, she doesn't look very big for 2 yrs so I'm guessing end of 2011...
Also Prism shed last night so here is a quick pic of her rainbowing in the sun
and finally cannot leave out little Hogster (look away NOW Chris )

This thread started so well until I got to the last picture YOUR carpet looks lovely and as I am sure you are aware unless you know the history with carpets it is very hard to know what mix you may have but she does look to have a strong coastal influence to me but I wouldn't be able to say if she is pure coastal or not, but lovely whatever |

Aww thanks everyone, we are really chuffed with her, she was so gentle and docile when we got her out yesterday, even when we were pulling her about trying to see how bad the mites were lol! She did however prove she was a carpet when the food came along though :P Because of our problems with Prism feeding we decided to feed Artemis first, then start the mite treatment in 2 days (with Prism we treated instantly and she then wouldn't eat and we were told we should have fed her first).
Yes Red, we went to the one in Fornham :) |

Am I thinking right in that you went to the one at the ornamental fish farm? Haven't been there to see Kim for ages. If it was that one she must be branching out more into reptiles. Might have to take a ride over there soon lol. |

Congratulations, to your hubby of course.
Going by the stripes and colour in the pattern I'd agree with Donnie and say there is certainly a good bit of Coastal in there. What are the belly scales like? Pearly white with darker edging? Might not have the edging at this age.
Pity about the mites but glad she's a feeder.
BTW, Carpets have a pretty slow metabolic rate so be guided on activity a few days after feeding for handling and don't expect a regular poop after every meal. Vambo can store it up for several weeks but at least it is mostly solid urate balls and stuff. |

Thanks all :)
Corn morphs I'm not bad on, but carpets I just cannot see the differences too well unless it's a really obvious jag lol!
Oh right - so do you think it will be OK to get her mite treatment started tomorrow pm, ie just over 48hrs after feeding, or do you think that would be too soon?
Red, they have been struggling with snake stocks lately - these were left with them by someone who didn't want them any more for them to sell on. They had the cutest little geckos in though, pygmies I think, yellow footed or something, only a couple of inches long. |

Thanks Mort :)
Well Donnie, the mite question, we have been discussing that a lot in the last 24hrs lol... I know quite a few people on here now rave about Callingtons so we did consider that... but at the same time I have seen bad reports about it elsewhere, either it not being effective, or causing problems with juvenile snakes. We used olive oil baths with Prism and this did the trick in a relatively short period of time so I think we will be doing that again, I'd rather not risk chemicals - arrgh, just as I was typing this I remembered about the taurrus/hypoaspis mites... cannot believe I'd forgotten about them, off to google them now lol - let me know if any of you know where to get them :P
Edit: have found them at Pilbara, just wondering now - olive oil is a lot cheaper |
