I know what you mean regarding callingtons, I read that hoggies (i think it was hoggies) and juvenile snakes can react badly to it but I gave Steve a dose (was about 7 months old I think without looking) of it when I got the little blighters and he was fine but I can understand anybody not wanting to take the risk. I have also heard mixed results with the Taurus mites as well and yes they aren't cheap, if you have done the oil method before and it worked then I suppose that is the best method for you unless you want to spend the cash and try the Taurus. Hopefully I will never have to do it again but I might be tempted to try the Taurus next time.

I used Callingtons for our boa when we got her, she was a year old. Didn't have any issues with the spray and no adverse affects on the boa either. Only had to use it twice and the mites were gone. We did start off with bathing in olive oil but after several baths she seemed to start to get stressed by everything so turned to the callingtons. I have also heard that hoggies do not react well to callingtons and neither do very young corns.
